Celtic suffer blow as wing star Aiden McGeady looks for move away from club - The Daily Record
AIDEN McGEADY has decided it's time to leave Celtic for a fresh challenge.
MailSport can reveal the winger has been soul-searching for months and that his decision has been reached with a heavy heart.
But the 24-year-old feels he has gone as far as he can in Scotland and wants to be tested in a new environment.
McGeady has developed into the most gifted SPL performer since breaking into the first team six years ago.
So his decision to move on will come as a major blow to new manager Neil Lennon. The Hoops boss wants McGeady to stay and will do everything in his power to convince him to start the new season at Parkhead.
But, deep down, Lennon knows the Republic of Ireland star has made up his mind and will respect his wishes.
His only consolation is that McGeady will fetch around £9million which can be used to bring in new players.
Spartak Moscow have already seen a bid of around £8m rejected by the Hoops. But the Russians will make a new offer this week and are con dent of agreeing a fee. McGeady returned from holiday last week and is now in a position to meet Spartak if Celtic give him permission.
The Hoops hero is understood to be interested in a move there but would rather join a club down south. Aston Villa, Spurs, Everton, Birmingham and Sunderland all rate McGeady highly and will consider tabling bids.
Birmingham boss Alex McLeish was willing to pay £8m for McGeady in January but Celts made it clear they weren't interested in selling. Villa boss Martin O'Neill gave the winger his Hoops debut in 2004 and believes he is capable of being a top performer in England.
With James Milner set for a £26m move to Manchester City, O'Neill will also have the funds to buy McGeady. The Celtic star's deal runs until 2013 but he hopes the club won't demand a silly fee.
Must be another slow day for news

hardly a shocker if true.

Just read it on news now my self there a will believe it when a see it but a really dont want him to go anywere a hope that the snipers and moany booing * are happy if he does go, and the people on this forum that says they would take 6 million or so for him really dont have a clue!!!
I believe if he goes to the epl he will excell and will be outstanding!!!! far to many are far to quick to critisize the boy from the stands when they know he,s done nothing but trying his best for the club, doesnt get the credit he deserves at celtic imo and will be missed badly if he does go................ irreplacible talent who is only going to get better imo :50: -
12m is fekin brilliant money for him. Could you imagine if we spent 12m on a winger and he played te same as McGeady does for us?...
I think we would be quite disappointed -
would take 10million for him especially since we need to overhaul the whole team rather than just 1 or 2 players

Thats the problem mate celtic wouldnt spend the 12 million or so they would get for him on a winger, infact we would be lucky to see the full 12 million even on transfers for the whole squad -

Hope this is true. I do like McGeady, but we could really do with those funds for new players
-
Sad really, love McGeady but if we get the money and he wants to leave - why stop it? Good Luck Aiden!

Mcgeady's a good wee player but for 9-12mil we could get bout 3 or 4 players just as good.so a would be quite glad to see him go -
Anyone who posts on here could have written that article. Just because it appears in a red top rag doesn't make it any more valid than if it had been written on this forum. Let's wait and see, I for one hope that he stays for at least another season and that he helps us win the title back. He is currently the most talented player in our squad and I'm not certain that we will sign anyone better.

The never ending story.
The Sunday edition? No quotes or whatever?
Spartak don't want him. Aiden McGeady don't want Russia.
Will Aston Villa, Spurs, Everton, Birmingham or Sunderland pay the price? Who knows... -

That article is written like a kids story man. Just a repeat again. Until he goes somewhere for talks we cannot take anything seriously because there has always been bids for him.
Lennon will do everything in his power but he knows McGeady has made his mind up deep down.
Just sounds so amatuer man. I personlly think he wouldn't dare go to Russia. If he wants, i think he could go to Birmingham -
