Does anyone follow a team or have any slight interest since they started showing the games on ESPN?

Follow my local New England Revolution. We are * but that's how it goes. A lot of kids around North America like Galaxy just because of Beckham. The league is really poor though.

You're the only American I've ever seen say that. Most MLS fans tend to big it up.

I've heard that it is improving and that it is not as bad as is made out to be. It's relatively new, and is decades if not a century behind many in history. It will take time. But Europe is where things happen tbh.

I just get the feeling it is a little too commercial at times. But apparently Toronto is a pretty hardcore club with made fans- trust that to be canadian eh :56::56:

    I'm honest mate :icon_mrgreen:

Most American's will also say "Football" is more manly than "soccer". I love football but I * LOVE proper football. Most of them are too stupid to understand the difference pal.

It's improved a little but it's still a flippin' joke of a league. It's also called the field ! and played on American football fields. If they want to improve and made an efford a pitch would be a great start.
We yanks need those Light Miller beers commercials ever two seconds Nick :56:

Do you follow any team mate? or even a wee soft spot...

The league isn't really poor though if you don't have unrealistic expectations. Compared to the bigger leagues in Europe, obviously. Compared to Mexico, yeah, it's not as deep. But the best teams are pretty * good, like Salt Lake (finished atop Cruz Azul in the North American CL group stages and just beat Saprissa 2-0 in the semifinals).

not really mate. Had a Galaxy top for some reason :97: one time, got it on holiday.

I think N.Y. has the best squad though.

But Donovan is some player- can't believe he remains in u.s. he must love L.A.

Don't follow Mexico at all mate. I'm more comparing the MLS to the SPL to etc How do you compare ?

Kids play it until a certain age then comes along football, basketball etc and it's left behind. The best game in the world. Beyond me.

I think the SPL is woefully overrated on this board. I'd put the league, on a whole, pretty far down the list of best leagues in the Americas. Behind Mexico (definitely), Argentina (definitely definitely) and Brazil (definitely definitely definitely). Leagues like Colombia, the US, Uruguay, Chile, etc., I think have more teams that are better than the SPL but Celtic and Rangers tip the scales because they're so huge. Basically in Colombia et al, I think Celtic and Rangers would still be 1-2 but by less of a margin than they are in Scotland.

not bad for a country of 6 million though

compared to those utterly hugely populated countries

Like Uruguay? I agree though, the fact that not only Scotland, but the city of Glasgow (being part of a country so small) can support Celtic and Rangers is an absolute miracle.

But I'd say that the economics of those countries offsets population size. The top clubs in Argentina can only pay as much as Celtic and Rangers, and their players get taken much more frequently than happens in Scotland. Mexico and Brazil are the only countries on that list, and MLS in certain (DP) situations, that have a couple of club teams that can pay more money than Celtic and Rangers.

Well Uruguay may be the one that has a small population in relation to the others. But yeah, Nacional and Danubio are pretty huge!

Well Brazilian teams of late have been making some rather large marquee signings. I bet wages are high for them. Likes of Corinthians and Fluminense

Exactly mate. I wish Donovan would come to Celtic but would never happen with his wages. Get him back in England along with Becks and Henry. Far too good for the MLS.

I have a soft spot for the Portland Timbers. They seem like a pretty cool club to follow even though they do suck and just recently got in the MLS. Seattle and Vancouver have a pretty hardcore ultra section of fans as do Portland. I tried watching LA vs Seattle and the midfield play was awful, * poor passing.

That's why I said they (and Mexico, and in certain situations the US) can pay more. Brazil, I think, is on the verge of becoming one of the best leagues in the world again. As the economics change in Latin America, and those countries become richer, I think that the allure of Copa Libertadores and Sudamericana will outweigh the allure of the CL and Europa League for a lot of South Americans.
