It's not so much the quality of the football though, even though it is still pretty *. it's all the pantomime stuff that goes on at games. It's more like a show than a game of football, it's cringey as *.

I don't watch a game of football to see a firework display, or to see some dance troupe round the side of the pitch. It may be some folks cup of tea, but it isn't mine

I watch it quite a bit - there are loads more teams in Mexico that have the dance troupes (maybe only one or two in MLS) and, apart from the 4th of July, I don't remember ever seeing a game with fireworks displays.

And anyways, everything has a cultural context. The "dance troupes" have their history in American high schools from the early-mid 1900s, before professional sports were even televised. I think cheerleading is only plastic when it's taken out of the original context just for the show bit.

That looks a bit manufactured to be honest, was the display planned by the club or made and planned by the supporters?

By the way if you are a Timbers fan you might remember my team Preston, we played you a few years ago in a pre-season tour of the USA, you won 2-1 I think.

All on the fans, completely separate from the club.

I enjoy watching the MLS, I don't have a team so I normally cheer on the underdog. Did anyone ever see the interview with Darren Huckerby? Check it out on YouTube :icon_mrgreen:

Quality and support of teams in the MLS is far better than the SPL (not including Celtic of course). Just watch any Timbers v. Sounders game and the fans are far better than watching say Dundee v. Killie.

I agree on the Playoffs though. There is already the US Open cup for playoffs. Keep the MLS to league titles. I would even be ok with there being an east and west champion and then those two play in the finals. But playoffs where almost every team makes it have basically made he regular season pointless.

What the MLS needs is more teams. The season is too short and most play off spots are guaranteed ,as you say, well before they start

The average MLS attendance is around 15 thousand and I think Seattle has a crowd average around 30 K so the league is on the right track

Think MLS is one of the only footballing leagues I can't watch, along with Ligue 1.

:87: catch yourself on. The NFL is the best run league in the world. You're going to talk about plastic and fake when diving plagues every football league across the world, players crowd the ref after almost every decision and ask for cards to be given out, no video replay, gossip is more dramatic (and ludicrously untrue) than a group of 16-year-old girls, and fans scream out every time a player goes down holding his face even though he was elbowed (slightly) in the shoulder? The most violent football gets is a two-footed tackle, someone kicking out at another, or a little pansy stick-your-head-in-and-fall-to-the-ground routine. Try taking a helmet-to-helmet tackle or a cross-check into the boards and then tell me how fake and plastic our leagues are. I love (European) football more than any other American sport, but what you've just said has to be one of the stupidest things I've ever read on this forum.

America must be one of the most irritating countries for sport. Isn't there the world series? Really tells the whole story.
The only reason I'd watch MlS is to see how Beckham is doing.

They justify calling it that because Toronto have a team, although I think it was called the world series before Canada had a team in it.(The Gaelic Football Championship is called the All Ireland even though teams from three countries enter).Baseball is a good game though if you don't mind paying 8 bucks for half a can of beer

Whoever mentioned atmosphere, only been to a NER game and I can tell you it was *. However NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB all are great events to go to. However they're more like days out when you take family etc. That's the good thing about football, just you and mates, shouting and going mental for 90 mins. Totally different experience. I understand why most Europeans say what we do isn't their cup of tea. Cause most just aren't used to it.

Ive started to like Basketball but the atmospheres are pish at it. "DE-FENCE, DE-FENCE" what sort of nonsence chant is that. Why don't the fans sing and dance and have their own teams songs?

You could probably get some noise at the basketball too since its indoor, is there any set of Basketball fans who boo the opposition and basically make any kind of noise etc to put them off?
