The Confederations Cup starts on Saturday night! Should be a cracking tournament, the teams are... Brazil (hosts), Spain (World Champions), Uruguay (South American Champions), Mexico (North American Champions), Japan (Asian Champions), Tahiti (Oceanic Champions), Nigeria (African Champions) and Italy (Euro runners up, they qualify as Spain hold two titles)
Who do you think will win it and what country are you supporting?
I'll be backing Italy 100%, I'm actually half-Italian so an easy choice :50:

Come on the Latin Americans- Mexico, Brazil and Uruguay.
And I must support Tahiti, one of the rare chances to see their team. :86: -

Nigeria refuse to board their plane to Brazil for the Confederations Cup following row over bonuses.

I probably want Mexico to win. I've been to Cancun and that was quality plus I have this shirt.
Which I think is stunning. Giovani Dos Santos is coming off the back of a really good season (personally at least) for Mallorca, then they have Ochoa in goal and Guardado from Valencia as well. And players like Hernandez and all the usual suspects like Salcido and Torrardo. Not sure why Carlos Vela isn't in the squad as he's been quality this season, and it's unfortunately too early for Carlos Fierro.
Looking forward to see Japan in action as I remember them being decent at the World Cup (especially at free kicks) and a lot of them play in the Bundesliga.
Predicted winners - Spain.
Top goalscorer - Roberto Soldado if he starts, if not Cavani.
Player of the tournament - El Shaarawy. -
I'll be behind Spain all the way. Should be a good tournament though.

Will bbc be brodcasting like they did in the last confederation cup?

I'll be supporting Spain too, it annoys everyone when I support Spain but I've been cheering for them in major tournaments since 2004 (excluding the group stages of Euro 2012 obviously).

Hopefully Uruguay win it, this generation has potential to go really far. I also hope Tahiti won't be end up being used as punching bag and for improving the goal difference, though I imagine there will be as least one game where they'll concede double figures or close to that.
Looking at the squads one name stuck out - Torrado. I thought he's about 40 now, apparently only 34! And with 139 caps. Might as well bring Arellano and Borgetti to add some experience.
I like these summer tournaments, they're great to watch although I prefer July-May full season schedule.Last edited by a moderator: Jun 13, 2013 -
