Do any of You feel that our Board are running and treating the Club as a Bank by hoarding cash and spending little as possible to improve the Team?

I robbed it earlier, and walked out £20 poorer.

The most unambitious * running a football club .

I think it's a wonder that we're in such a good financial state given the sheer incompetence shown in almost every area of the club.
Everything we do reeks of 'jobs for the boys', and the bulk of our transfers are throwing * at the wall to see what sticks. Ange was the anomaly and I can honestly see why he bolted for the EPL at the first opportunity. We are a historically huge club with a massive fanbase and incredible fan culture, but we're an * outfit behind the scenes. -

A bank would modernize with the times and look to increase and maximise revenue opportunities.
By investing money they have in other avenues to yield bigger financial gains.
We simply seem content to get the basic in, without spending too much, then hoardering the cash.

It’s the general narrative just now but not one I agree with. It’s born of frustration at the lack of speed in bringing in players which is fair enough, everyone can understand that coming from a fans perspective but there’s a bigger picture.
We need to be more ambitious without a shadow of a doubt but the balance to be struck in that is not being wreckless whilst doing it, for every Eddy there’s an Ajeti for every Forster there’s a Barkas. We’d all be livid if the money was squandered on * with no resale value. Give me a well scouted MOR over a fumbled Bolingoli or Bernabei every day of the week. The scouting needs to improve and then we can start working up the levels of purchase with a bit more confidence in the ‘gamble’ on bigger outlays on fees and wages.Bad Ambassador, borvebhoy and Buster like this. -
I always hope that one day things will click and we will start to operate like a forward thinking, ambitious football club.
The missed opportunities to develop and progress in Europe though, due to chronic mismanagement of the club, we’re never getting that back.
We’re blessed, or our board are blessed depending on which way you look at it, that our main domestic rivals are a total basket case of a club who seem to be incapable of performing the most basic of tasks.
As long as we are marginally better than the unparalleled mess from Govan that we are forever compared to, then most of our support simply don’t care about anything else, hence no appetite for progression.
Unfortunately, being a bit better than Rangers means not a jot when we come up against even the most basic, organised, functioning football clubs in European football. -
But it's the same * every year, as a fan base we dot do anywhere near enough to force change so we get what we deserveLast edited: Jul 9, 2024 -
I love the fact we will never be in financial turmoil I really do and a big part of that is because of the board BUT I also hate the fact we do absolutely * all in Europe year after year. Absolutely nothing wrong with fans wanting them to be a bit more ambitious in scouting a player which will take us up a level against European opposition. There was no excuse to get beat aff Lazio twice last year they were stinking. Needed that extra bit of quality in the side.

With interest rates being where they are, celtic are probably earning over £3m a year just in interest. Which is roughly the same as we will get for winning the SPFL. I'm not sure what board bonuses are based on at celtic but as a general rule, looking at how boards are compensated will answer how companies are run. I'm guessing ours are financial based.
A lazy high street bank that pays * interest, closes branches to save money, and still makes money because customers have always used them and can't be bothered changing, is probably a fair analogy for the celtic model.Mr Cleansheets likes this. -
Need to go back to the club constitution or charter (or whatever the * it is). From a corporate governance perspective, the board ought to be doing stuff that promotes the viability and potential success of the FC, in a prudential way.
I suspect the prudentiality has led to an imbalance. Time for some football investment, ya *. -
Balance Sheet FC
You only have to look and listen to the jibes they make about the Huns every AGM to understand their attitude "at least we're no as * and stupid as them". Yes, we are financially sustainable and that is something to be commended - the club is not in financial jeopardy but I would argue a club with a 55,000 season tickets + waiting list should be stable. We do not speculate to accumulate and we do not aim to have the best in class (or best available in our budget) across the footballing department from staff to players.
If we're gonna be run so clinically when it comes to business & finances I don't know why we can't have that approach with the sporting side as the two should be symbiotic and lead to overall growth. We have had a ridiculous opportunity over the last 6-7 years in particular to qualify regularly for the CL but have failed to turn over players and improve the team to maximise that opportunity. If we'd invested the money from every CL campaign into the footballing structure we could have year-on-year qualified and continued to improve - this would improve our position negotiating sponsorship deals, more merch & matchday income, brand awareness etc - not to mention we would likely have given a better account of ourselves in the groups and had Europa runs.
The lack of ambition is exasperating - when you're looking at oil money clubs & corporate entity clubs doing things more professionally than you it makes you wonder whether you'd alter your moral compass just to see us reach our potential. -

We aren't dead like the huns.
We aren't constantly investigated by FFP.
We are a very very well run club, of course we can always improve on the football side but given the bigger picture, we should be happy as the most successful team in Scotland since the millenium by a country mile, in a great financial position looking forward to another history-making season ahead.
Not * every other thread "board" slating, when most * dont even know who's actually ON the board and what they do/don't do.... -
Generally banks invest their money whereas we sit on it and do * all.

As far as I understand it (I'm not mega knowledgeable about banking), that's not really how banks work; and if we did act like a bank (i.e. creating money for loans) we'd be breaking the law. Maybe someone who knows more can confirm whether I'm right about that.
Anyway, I don't think we are deliberately hoarding money. They almost apologised for the amount of money we are holding in a statement last year. To me, it just seems like we don't have the ability to invest it well. As @JC Anton and @Mr Shelby, keep saying, we need to overhaul our structure.Last edited: Jul 9, 2024ladbroke8, Sgt Neppers*, JC Anton and 1 other person like this.
