I've always been rather indifferent on the Strachan debate until today. I had a long hard meditation about it (during class haha). Reflecting on the Rangers game and how poorly we played yet still came out pretty easily with the draw, I decided that WGS and the Celtic board are secret geniuses :icon_mrgreen:.
Think about it. We talk about kicking them when we're down, pulling away while they're in financial trouble, "now's our chance to leave them in the dust." If we made huge signings and spent a lot of money on major players, that would just mean we destroy them this season, maybe the next one and who knows after that.
But facing the worst Rangers side in the history of the game, wouldn't that be the best time to sacrifice a little quality on the first team? If we can win the league with what we have now, why not spend the big signing money on ten young kids? How many have we already signed, and how many do we plan on signing? We're practically raising a whole new starting 11 on our brand new state of the art training facility.
The point I'm making is this: we actually are doing the best thing possible to pull away from the scum in the long run. In two/three years when these reserve guys start hitting their stride, the Mordorians won't have a chance. What has their reserve side done of value? These kids are going to grow up playing together, many are already top players for their age, and they can only get better.
I don't know what you guys think but I'm starting to get excited with every new young signing. I really think in 2 or 3 years we'll have the ability to go ten in a row easily ~ let alone if we've kept the title all the way til then anyway. :celt_2:

no seriously i think it's brilliant! look at our potential line up
misun (age 18) - caldwell (age 26) - mcmanus (age 26) - caddis (age 20)
mcgeady (22) - crosas (21) - brown (23) - mizuno (23)
hutchinson (21) - sheridan (19)
plus any other young guys we bring in, which it seems like we're planning on a lot. we're going to have a top notch academy, and i really think in 2,3, maybe 4 years we'll be untouchable in the SPL -
Sheridan lol

seriously though we are bringing in a shitload of players i say at least 6-7 of them will come to fruition. and hey, we're winning the SPL now with only 1-2 good players per game -

Who know's once these younger players get some experience i think a few of them will be fairly decent in a few years time a few of those players already are except Sheridan he just needs to learn so hopefully this loan spell at Motherwell does him some good, misun cant say much about him yet as for Hutchinson still beyond me why he hasn't had any first team chances yet.

I get your overall point STLbhoy! :50:
Don't get hung up on Sheridan he's just using the lad as an illustration. I agree, i think our prospects are looking good! We're going about business in a safe and sensible manner and i'm sure we'll have positive years ahead! -
if theres one that pleases me about our squad, it's the average age. As STlbhoy illlustrated, I think our age/quality ratio is quite promising. I agree with the threadstarter that Celtic is doing a very smart thing here. While it may be a bit risky, we are infact doing the best thing we can in our hopes of getting 10iar

I agree with the signings policy.
I would prefer to see a few of the young Scottish/Irish lads who are at the club already being given more of a chance.
We have seen Sheridan being given a few opportunites, and he has shown he is maybe not good enough for this level.
Caddis has been put in and continually impressed against any opposition he has faced, yet he is behind that donkey Hinkel. -
* me, Sheridan gets a right rough ride in here, the boys 19 for * sake, played a handful of games, scored a couple of goals, some people need to wind there necks in a bit. Give the boy a break.

For a young lad you make a lot of sense, the only problem is the quality we are being subjected to at the moment.
If, as a lot of people are threatening, season books aren't renewed due to the deliberate reduction of quality, you yourself suggest, will it be as easy to get those punters to change their new routine and come back to CP.
Maybe yes, but its a gamble.
Thanks for the reflection though, this youth policy may well pay huge dividends. -
just read the rest of the replies, i also can't believe the pelters being dished out to young sheridan.
He contributed more overall than JVOH, yet some can't see past him because he's a dutch sub. -

The quality is poor and to a lot of fans its not in keeping with the traditions of the club to accept poor play and boring campaigns as long as we win the title.
I have spoken to older fans who have supported the team since as far back as the sixties making this threat, maybe its a bluff, but its a risk the club are taking. -

Of all these so called potential signings who of them actualy excite you that you really think they might become top class, theres not 1 i can think off
