Neily took a fair bit of stick for his substitutions last season. I think he's made big strides in that area this season. He doesn't wait so long to change things anymore and the substitutions he makes are, on the whole, better.
Taking Ki and Samaras off today was absolutely the right thing to do. They were empty shirts and the game swung in our favour once the two of them were taken off.
10/10 for today's substitutions. Well done Neily. :celt_2:

Aye mate, spot on, pulling my hair out last year (and theres * all left) screaming out for subs, but he got it right today, knew he wouldn't change it at half time as the formation was switched just before the break so you need a good 10-15 minutes to analyse that, once it was seen that it was only working to an extent, the subs were bang on.
Got to remember he is still a young inexperienced manger, but he is hopefully learning this aspect of management now. -
his choice of substitutions have won us a fair few games this season,he always made a point in his early managerial career that he was still learning, its seems we are getting the benefits of him gaining experience, fair play

Good point. It annoyed me a few times last season. Today was not the first time this season that we have seen great management of subs:50:
-
good subs but his starting 11 selection was questionable.

This is what I'd like to see from now on
Forrest/Brown - Wanyama - Ledley - Commons
Stokes - Hooper
I don't care about the defence the same, I think there are various combos. But the above is our best MF and forward line! -

Substitutions came at the right time today and had the desired impact. He definitely seems to be learning from his mistakes now.

He's getting better at it, and today they were made at the right time and the right players to come on and off.
Don't think Matthews was too happy at being brought on in that weather.ha. But he did well when he came on, good cover at left back and allowed Ledley to push forward a bit more. (let's face it he had a pretty poor game at lb today).
So Lennon seems to be learning from some of his mistakes, and it's about time too.
Good job Lenny:50: -

I very much agree about Lennon's subs today. They were a big part in the win. I was just thinking once the second half was underway that ok nothing has changed in our favour so Lennon has to change things here and do so quickly as we are in trouble. He did so and Commons and Stokes were both very active when they came on and played a big part in getting us the win.

I thought he should have brought Izzy on when we were trying to find a goal.

It's easy to make good subs when you leave your best players on the bench in the first instance.
That's not a pop btw (as you still need to make the change) but my point is, it was a no brainer and tbh those players should have been on from the start. -
To be fair its because he * his selection from the start. So if i give him 10/10 for his subs but 2/10 for his starting line up

Not falling over myself to praise him personally.
Stokes sub was correcting his own error with daft team selection. Samaras has been brilliant on the left for weeks yet he gets inexplicably shoved up front again where he has struggled consistently.
Why was our winning formation changed to counter the mighty St Mirren FFS? -

Good work from Lenny today as far as subs are concerned. I was a bit surprised at the starting 11 but to answer the point, a good day for the manager.
I slaughtered him after the game at Ibrox so fair's fair.:50: -

both changed and saved the match absolute spot on tactics with the double sub> Commons come on and changed the game for me.

Credit where it is due he did make good subs today but he shouldnt have had to because ki and cha both shouldn't have been starting.
