hey just wondering if anyone on here still follows British Ice Hockey? ive been thinking of heading through to Edinburgh to catch a game soon; its been so long since ive been to a game...along with footie i also wanted to be an ice hockey player lol

used to support the Ayr Eagles, then they moved to Braehead and went bust, broke my heart that :54: i remember season 97-98 was the best ever sporting wise; Celtic stopped the 10 and the eagles won everything going :celt_2: great days

No, and the quality is absolutely dire :54: We have a league called the 'elite league' but trust me, it's far from it

I think i've watched 1 full game (didn't want to walk out half way through it :56:) and that's where my experience with UK hockey stops

I guess it could but considered glory hunting for following the NHL simply because it's bigger and better than the UK league but who cares :lingua: Up the MTL Canadiens, go Habs go! :icon_mrgreen:

Paisley has a team called the Paisley Pirates. They're *, but there's usually a lot of blood and violence, which is entertaining.

tbf, it was good around the late 1990s since there were were plently of americans, canadians and scandanavians playing over here but yeah its pretty crap these days and no where near on par with even european leagues never mind the NHL!

someone likes the Habs as well! :50:

Better off doing that mate. You got family in Canada? or do you just like them. In the States because our football(soccer) is so poor, you get a lot of glory hunters. Never met so many Man Utd and Chelsea fans in my life. They can't even name players in the team! pure jk.

I've only been following for a couple of months and the Canadiens were the first team I watched (incidentally, it was the 5-1 win over Boston earlier this season :icon_mrgreen:)

That was a hard one to take :( I'm just happy you are not a New York Rangers man. I don't get how any Celtic fan can like the New York teams.

Especially one with Rangers in the name!

Only 2 of my friends like Ice Hockey and they support NJ Devils and Pittsburgh Penguins (surprise, surprise
) and they're constantly saying how * the Canadiens are (24 trophies doesn't lie, *! :icon_mrgreen:) so it was inevitable we'd end up beating them both in our last games :bbpd:

I followed British Ice Hockey for years, games between Murrayfield Racers (Edinburgh) and Fife Flyers regularly attracted 3500 fans, in fact the Flyers had more fans than their local football team, Raith Rovers in Kirkcaldy.

Great times watching the Northern League teams from Dundee, Fife, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Ayr, Paisley, Durham, Whitley Bay & Billingham. The moneymen moved in and a lot of new stadiums were launched, teams from Coventry, Nottingham, Sheffield, Cardiff, Belfast, Hull, Newcastle & Edinburgh now compete in front of some large crowds in Sheffield, Belfast and Nottingham (all 6000 plus stadiums).

However I no longer go to Ice Hockey, I do miss the stovies at Kirkcaldy ice rink on a cold Saturday night in Fife.

5-3 with an empty net goal is hardly that, and getting outshot 45-23 doesn't help that staement either. If Brodeur showed up tonight, or better yet, if Luongo played, I'm thinking we would've won. The US team didnt really outplay us, Miller just stood on his head last night to win it.

I'm hoping we'll see you in the final again.

canada did outshoot the US but theres no denying the americans were far more effective and fluid in their play whilst canada (and in particular sidney crosby had another bad game despite his goal) looked like they werent handling the increased expectation very well

very suprised to see marty brodeur have a bad game by his very high standards, tbf to canada they did come up against a hot goalie in miller

tbf thats whats good about american sports in general; u can be crap but if you finish bottom u get the first pick of new players next year in the draft and can build up a team cabaple of challenging for honours!

This brings back memories mate , was an avid follower of the Flyers for years going to most home and away games , used to love when the Racers or Wasps came to town as there was always an extra niggle in the game

    mmmmmm Stovies :50:

I don't really follow British Ice-Hockey but i'm a big fan of the LA Kings so I watch a lot of the NHL. I played Ice-hockey from the age of 8 until I was 16. Then I started smoking and drinking and fell out with the manager. :54: I really wish I'd stuck at it though because I was a decent player. (don't like blowing my own trumpet but facts are facts, :icon_mrgreen:) I've thought about going back but my fitness levels are zero.

    Go Kings!!!!!

    Good old memories !!!

Well HOOPBHOY I was the same in terms of going here, there and everywhere with the Racers, my mates were Tony and Paul Hand, so we went to Wembley, Rotterdam and all over the UK following the Racers.

However there was never anything quite like a Racers V's Flyers encounters at Murrayfield or Kirkcaldy with a full house in attendance. The committment from both sets of players was amazing, I also knew Dougie Latto and George Ramsay from Fife, but that was from the days of the Kestrals.

remember watching him during his Ayr Eagles days was a classy player; would have played in the NHL when he got drafted as a young lad if he hadnt got homesick!! i was a hardcore Eagles fan and i still fondly remember season 97-98 when they won everything; me and dad travelled the length and breadth of britain following them till they moved to the Braehead and quickly went bust :47:
