Incoming Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is already looking back at his former Leicester City charges as he looks to bolster his squad at Parkhead, TEAMtalk understands.
The Northern Irishman is on the cusp of agreeing a move back to Celtic Park for what will be his second spell in charge. After leaving Leicester back in April, he was expected to take a period of time away from the game.
However, with Leeds United coming calling, Celtic decided to make their move having lost Ange Postecoglou to Tottenham.
Now TEAMtalk can confirm the return of the 50-year-old will be made official later this week.
Rodgers proved a massive success during his two and a half years in Glasgow. He won back to back Scottish Premiership trebles, adding a seventh trophy in a third straight Scottish League Cup before departing for the Foxes.
In addition, he also boasted an astonishing 69.8 win percentage
Now plans are underway to ensure that his second spell at Celtic is just as successful.
And TEAMtalk understands that Amartey is under strong consideration by Rodgers as a potential first signing.
The 28-year-old is a free agent after leaving Leicester at the end of the season.
He spent eight seasons at the King Power, featuring 145 times for the Foxes.
Amartey, who can cover in defence or midfield, has been talking with clubs in Turkey over a possible move. There is also interest in him from Saudi Arabia too.
However, we understand there is a chance he could move to Celtic, with the Bhoys ready to contact his agent. -

Can't see it but he is versatile can play midfield or at the back and would add some physicality. Over a hundred EPL games for Leicester and over 50 caps for Ghana..
Wouldn't be overly surprised as he's in his peak years, free and the managers former first team player..
Don't want him though..neilly1987 likes this. -

average player, not a good start to Rodgers recruitment if this is his idea of improving us.

I really like him and he’d suit the current squad as well, he puts in a power of graft.
Depends what route we go down but he wouldn’t be a bad signing at all.Crilly likes this. -
He's a better midfielder than he is defender. Would add some real physicality to the defensive midfield position and fact he can play centre back means he's probably better cover option than Kobayashi

I wouldn't be against it, it's not an exciting signing but if Rodgers wanted someone he could trust to be back up CB and play as a physical DM when called upon I'd be fine with that but he's only played 140 games in 7.5 years.

I thought he was about 37 not 28.
Wouldn’t be too bad.BigWilly likes this. -
If he’s on a free you can guarantee we will be taking a look at him. I haven’t seen much of him tbh

Depending what kinda formation we go with, we could end up needing at least 2 centre halves, maybe 3 if we went to a back 3. He can play centre half, right back and centre mid..
Would allow us to spend elsewhere whilst having a very capable squad player. You look at it realistically and he's miles better than a Kobayashi or Welsh. Midfield wise to shut up shop we only really have Iwata to call on off the bench..Morcombe, martin_d, The_Bhoy and 1 other person like this. -

Apparently got a bad injury which is why he moved back to a back 3..Blochairnbhoy likes this. -

What is his reported current wage at leicester? Or at least was before being a free? I’m sure he’ll be expecting the same or at least 90% of. And if not I’m sure a Saudi team would take him just based on him being a prem player
