Aye, if that was them where Johnston got swiped they'd of went down like a sack of * making sure the ref gave the penalty..

Don't know if the boy was legit injured for the second goal but our player stopped and he ran right through him to win the game..

Lot's of little one's through this group has been exactly the same..

Deffo a macho type thing in Britain. Player's here are more likely to show how tough they are by staying up/being honest than rolling around....the total opposite to the rest of the continent..

BAYERN Munich denied a dominant Celtic a point in the UEFA Youth League with a last-minute winner in Greenock, with the German side now moving top of the group after defeating Tommy McIntyre’s side 2-1.

Jack Aitchison had put Celtic ahead in the second-half before a double from Oliver Meier Batista handed Bayern Munich all three points.

Celtic took the game to Bayern in the early stages of the match but the German defence were able to deny the home side any clear-cut opportunities. The first opportunity came from Celtic captain Regan Hendry, who showed good awareness to try and lob Hoffmann from the half-way-line when the keeper was caught out of position, but his attempt went wide.

Ewan Henderson was the next to test the German keeper with a long-range effort but Hoffmann was equal to it and held on to the ball. Kerr McInroy had the only other real chance in the first-half when his half-volley from outside the box was again saved by Hoffmann.

There was little to separate the two sides in the first 45 minutes but Celtic looked the more likely of the two to open the scoring. The young Hoops did an excellent job containing Bayern and began to find their attacking rhythm as the half progressed, but the vital pass in the last third was too rushed at times.

Celtic saw more of the possession and kept the Bayern defence busy, winning five corners while the Germans only had one attempt on target from a header which Ryan Mullen comfortably held on to. Mikey Johnston, who scored in the away leg of the fixture two weeks ago in Munch, continued to threaten the visitors with his tricky footwork and darting runs into the box.

Tommy McIntyre’s side immediately started the second-half on the front foot as they went in search of a goal.

The Hoops high pressing game saw Henderson win possession deep in the opposition half but Hoffmann was equal to his low, driven shot. Mark Hill then got on the end of a Johnston cross out on the left and attempted to back-heel the ball in, but the keeper saved his attempt.

Oliver Meier Batista came close to putting Bayern ahead against the run of play when he burst into the box but Ryan Mullen showed great reactions to rush off his line and save the close-range effort.

McInroy was instrumental in finally putting Celtic ahead. The young midfielder beat two Bayern defenders on the edge of the box before laying off Aitchison who steered the ball into the back of the net just before the hour mark.

The Hoops were unlucky not to increase their advantage moments later when Aitchison had another shot at goal from the edge of the area but Hoffmann was able to push the ball wide. Hendry was then denied a clear penalty when he was brought down in the box but the referee waved play on.

Bayern found a way back into the game in the 72 minute when Batista converted a wonderful taken free-kick on the edge of the Celtic area, the midfielder dipping the ball over the Hoops wall and into the bottom corner beyond Mullen.

Bayern Munich gained a new lease of life after scoring and looked the more energetic of the two sides in the closing stages of the game. Celtic still pressed Bayern high as they went in search of a winner, though, and substitute Broque Watson almost clinched all three points for Celtic with just a few minutes remaining. But his shot from around eight yards was blocked by the opposition defence.

Just as they did in Munich, Celtic’s dominance and energy appeared to fade in the closing stages and Bayern took advantage. Batista latched on to a looping ball over the top of the Celtic defence and beat McInroy on the by line before firing past Mullen from a tight angle to seal the win.

TOMMY McIntyre is anticipating a resolute performance from his Development Squad as they begin the defence of their Scottish FA Youth Cup against Alloa Athletic just days after coming agonisingly close to getting a result against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Youth League.

The Development Squad face a third round tie away to the Wasps at the Indodrill Stadium, Alloa this Sunday, November 5. (KO: 1pm)

And speaking exclusively to the official Celtic website ahead of the game, Tommy McIntyre said: “The Youth Cup is one we’ve done particularly well with over the years. It’s one that’s of significant value to us and there’s a lot of media attention that goes along with the Youth Cup. It is age-specific too, so they'll be coming up against the best in their age group.

“It’s one that we really look forward to and we’re conscious of the fact that Alloa have a really good structure. I’ve watched them a couple of times already. They’ll be really organised and they’ll prove to be a real test for us. There’s a certain way we want to play and we’ve done all our homework for this game.

“We’ll make one or two changes to freshen up the team a little bit because the games are coming fast and furious just now."

The fixture follows closely on the heels of Tuesday's game against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Youth League in which Celtic were leading by a goal before the German side fought back and snatched an injury-time winner.

McIntyre says that he and the players were disappointed not to have claimed a point having dominated much of the game, but he believes that disappointment, along with the players' desire to prove themselves worthy of an opportunity in the first-team, will bring the best out in them.

“To not come away with anything from the Bayern game is really disappointing,” said McIntyre. “However, the bigger picture is how well the players have adapted to the European youth games and how they’ve went toe-to-toe with the cream of Europe in a competitive element, which is important.

“They’ll remember that they play for Celtic and every game is the same. There shouldn’t be any disparity between the games and you don’t pick your games. We prepare the same way for the Alloa game as we did for Bayern Munich. Naturally with the players you’re expecting a kick-back from it and as with every game the ultimate aim is to progress and get to the next level."

He added: “As nice as it is to win the next game, the bigger picture is getting to the next level and they know in order to do that they need to perform. It doesn’t matter who they play. If they play well they’ll recognised."

Would like to see Ryan Mullen getting a chance in the first team this season. Only 16 but looks an excellent prospect.

Goalie. We don't seem to have any young centre backs who look like they can make the step up any time soon.
