Bailly called into serious action for the first time & he rises to the challenge, making an excellent save from Atakayi's rasping drive

Looks like we have some decent lhads coming through but i am
struggling to see any path into the first team for them.

Well our first team anyway. maybe sending them out on loan is the best thing

REGAN Hendry was the hat-trick hero for Celtic’s Development Side as they comprehensively dispatched Glasgow rivals Rangers 4-0 at Cappielow. The attacking midfielder handed the hosts an early advantage with a fine volley and Tommy McIntyre’s side enjoyed a two-goal cushion before the quarter-hour mark after Kyle Bradley sent Calvin Miller’s cross into his own net.

As the young Celts continued to dominate and play some fast, attacking football, Hendry increased their lead with a neat finish in the 30th minute. And he sealed his treble and a well-deserved three points for the youths seven minutes into second half from the penalty spot after goalkeeper Robby McCrorie had fouled Miller.

McIntyre had made three changes from the team which narrowly lost to Hibernian on Tuesday. Logan Bailly came in to start between the sticks, while Anthony Ralston and Kerr McInroy were also restored to the side. Conor Hazard, Aidan McIlduff and Theo Archibald dropped out.

After a typically frenetic start to proceedings, the young Celts soon settled into their stride and started to fashion some promising positions.

In the fifth minute, Jack Aitchison found himself in space inside the box. He drilled the ball across goal but, such was the pace on the ball, the onrushing Mikey Johnston was unable to divert it on target.

The away side failed to heed that warning as Celtic made the breakthrough from their next attack. Josh Kerr’s raking pass picked out Sam Wardrop down the right. His cross was only cleared as far as Hendry, who found the corner of the net with a fabulous first-time volley.

In response, Zak Rudden fired wide from distance for the visitors, but the young Hoops, playing with pace and purpose, quickly doubled the advantage.

Hendry skipped past one challenge in the middle of the park and fed Miller down the left. The winger delivered a dangerous ball across the six-yard box and defender Bradley contrived to turn the ball into his own net.

The Bhoys were looking dangerous every time they entered the final third, with both full-backs charging forward with regularity to provide excellent width. And when Ralston dug out a brilliant cross from the byline, Miller rose well at the far post to head the ball back across goal, but there were no takers.

Goal number three arrived on the half-hour mark. McInroy swung in a cross from left and Hendry controlled it on his chest before steering a shot beyond Robby McCrorie.

At the other end, Bailly was being well-protected by the Hoops backline. Whenever Rangers got into a dangerous area, someone in green-and-white was always alert to avert the danger, with Wardrop making a timely clearance when a ball was flashed across goal.

McCrorie, in contrast, was being regularly called into action, and only his outstretched fingertips prevented the hosts from adding a fourth, when Johnston’s dipping, curling free-kick looked to be creeping under the bar.

As half-time approached, Celtic continued to threaten. Johnston had an excellent penalty shout waved away when his cross looked to be clearly handled in the box and then the winger was unable to find a team-mate after breaking clear down the right.

The pattern continued after the restart and McIntyre’s side soon added to their tally. As Miller chased down a ball over the top, panic ensued in the Rangers defence as Jordan Houston and McCrorie collided. And as Miller attempted to reach the loose ball, he was pulled back by McCrorie and the referee pointed to the spot. Hendry stepped up confidently stroked home from 12 yards to complete his treble.

Now in total control of the contest, the Bhoys didn’t need to force the issue, though they remained resolute at the back, determined to deny the Ibrox side a glimmer of hope. It took until midway through the half for Bailly to be called into serious action but he was equal to the task, saving superbly from Serge Atakayi’s long-range strike.

And the home side could have inflicted further punishment, with Fiacre Kelleher heading wide when unmarked and Johnston thwarted by McCrorie as the clock ticked down as the Celts bounced back from Tuesday’s reversal to Hibs in emphatic style.
