Your Top 5 Celtic games

Ye could have counted matches on the telly. I meant matches SEEN, you didn't need to be at them.

 

I've seen lots of great games but the two Leeds games in 1970 are hard to beat. 134000 inside Hampden with thousands locked out!! The daddy of them all though has to be the 4-2 game in 1979 - league decider against the Rangers. Down to 10 men with Johnny Doyle sent off and still come back to win. I can still see Murdo McLeod's shot thumping into the net for the fourth goal. Ah, I'm going to cry.

 

1. 2-1 v Dundee United to win the double in the centenary season. We had scored late on to win so many times that season and McAvennie did it again in the final.

2. 1-0 v huns in 89 final. Terrible league season and we were really up against it that day.

3. 6-2 v the huns amazing day and the begining of a new dawn.

4. 3-1 v Hibs in 2001 to clinch the treble.

5. 2-0 v Liverpool in 2003 UEFA Cup Quarter-finals. So sweet so * sweet knocking the english out on their own turf.

6. 5-0 v St Mirren to amazingly win the league at the death in 86.

7. 2-0 v St Johnstone to win the league in 98

8. 5-1 v huns in 98. scoreline says it all really.

9. 3-0 v huns in 2001. So many highlights that season but we really rubed their noses in it that day

10. 1-0 v huns to complete the green and whitewash in 2004.

 

Doesn't it feel great remembering all these great matches?

Trying to think of just 5 brought back so many great memories.

I live in the NW of England and was lucky enough to see

the Blackburn Away Game
the Liverpool Away game ( awesome was in the Kop and was right beghind the ball when Hartson scored i was 1 of many to jump up with green & White on)
The Dundee Utd Final (1985) davie provan winner
The Dundee game at CP when we won the league (cant remember the year)
This year against Hearts to win the league at CP (the journey home was awesome )

I think that was the centenary year 1988, Andy Walker was one of the scorers, I think we won 3-0.

 

Thats it they had personnel barriers round the pitch with people sat behind them if i remember ??

I wasn't at Lisbon as I was only 7 years old at the time but I remember the game on the tv and have seen many videos of the game.
The 1970 semi at Hampden was some game to be at though, If I remember rightly about 140,000 in the ground. We'd already beaten Leeds 1-0 at Elland Road and my uncle Andy took me to see the 2nd leg. Leeds had Bremner, Jackie Charlton & Eddie Gray in the side and we had the great George Connelly as well as 6 Lisbon Lions in the Celtic team.
Jinky, Caesar, Big Tam Gemmell, Bobby Murdoch, Bertie Auld & Bobby Lennox.
I don't remember much about the game except Bremner scored first and silenced the crowd. In the 2nd half Leeds subbed there goalie and David Harvey came on.
A few minutes later Big Yogi Hughes scored the equaliser and them Murdoch hit the winner.
I think that was the first time I really noticed how great Jinky was as he just took the pish out of the Leeds defenders.

You have to take into account that it was a long time ago. Maybe I'll find a link for a match report or something and post it.

We were probably the best club side in Europe then and were favourites to win the final in Milan, but we were too complacent and Feyenoord beat us.

Celtic 2 Seville 3 - we got beat, but hey...a fantastic time was had by all.
Celtic 1 Rangers 0 - Either one when Thomson scored, or the Sutton one. On both occasions it was tremendous watching the Huns thinking they had got a point
Celtic 4 Juve 3 - That night was electric!
Barcelona 0 Celtic 0 - Was amazing being at the Nou Camp and seeing us put Barcelona out the UEFA.
Blackburn 0 Celtic 2 - Personal sentiment here as it was my first away European game
