In theory of course MoN is a far more experienced and simply better manager than Lennon.

But it would leave Lennon's position untenable. MoN's signature is becoming a dictator at the club and running things his way from top to bottom, in fact that's the mark of any great manager really. To have that incredible influence hanging over your head completely undermines Lennon.

So if MoN comes back it will be the end of Lennon and I can't see that happening.

And don't get me started on MoN's faults!

I think he's had his time and Celtic are not an appealing club to top class managers now

O'Neill had his time. It's Lennon's time now and i'm perfectly happy with the signings this coming season. Let's give them time to gel and im sure we will have a good season.

I know what your sayin, but how many managers leave a club in a good state did Strachan. Will Man Utd be the same when saf leaves, I would just like to know why the media are so negative about a POSS return of Martin Oneill, And for all I loved Paul Lambert what the * has it got to do with him he had his chance to be manager so I think he should concentrate on his ownn club.

At the end of the day this topic is useless, MoN will go to another english pl team and Neil Lennon will be the celtic manager, Obv theres gonna be debates on if you want him back its a no brainer he prob wont even look at celtic.

No don't want MON back at the club in any capacity...He had his time with us, done a job and left. Good luck to him, but no thanks! Lennon is our Manager, a true Celtic man....He'll do for me! Hail Hail!

No not at all. What would he come back as we have a manager, and even the idea of discussing someone else, no matter who it is, while Lennon is in charge and only has been for a matter of months of, is Terrible. And Martin is a manager, even if he was given director of football role (whatever that is). He's a manager, and you just can't have two managers at your club.

I would have Martin back in a heartbeat but the circumstance must be taken into account and everyone has to remember that Neil Lennon is our manager.

At present, the best option has to be on a mentor/consultancy basis - to allow Lenny to pick up the phone whenever he needs advice. I'd imagine Martin would even do it for free as not only would he be helping the club he loves but also mentoring 'his boy' (a term used by Tom Boyd at the Christmas party 2000 when speaking to Martin about Lenny)

MON is in the past. lets move on. there are few players or managers that have returned to be as good as before. therefore undoing there good work first time around. lets give lennon our full support.

The board are looking for a "mentor" for Lennon. What a mentor to have in Martin O'Neil. The role wouldn't be a full time one and he doesn't even need to move to Scotland.

I don't suppose it would cost an arm and a leg either.:50:

Didn't think Lennon deserved the job in the 1st place but he got it and now deserves his chance.

MON has made his decision to walk, he is therefore not working, in typical MON style i guess he will take some time out with the wife and Family, only returning for a blue-ribbon opportunity.....therefore a day or two a week consultancy support to NL would be ideal, not Manager, not Director of football, just consultancy......must be a no brainer...<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

It would be an absolute travesty if people genuinely expected Celtic to say, Lenny, we've found Martin, so err, close the door on yer way out eh. It would be so unprofessional its unreal. It shouldn't happen. Lenny is the boss and should stay as it.

Absolutly spot on man. Lennon has been in charge for a matter of months and already "Celtic fans" are praying for MON return. He will end up at Man Utd as you said. What benefit would it do to his managerial career to return to Celtic Park where he has nothing left to prove there. It would be like Schumacher returning to F1 :86:

I think we should all get behind Lennon in the same fashion we did at the end of the season and give him the respect he deserves.

love martin back but the more i think about it the more guilty i feel the now we have a manager who sweated and bled for the club as a player and did well as a caretaker last season he deserves his chance more than anyone if we as a club and as fans turned our back on him now then we should be ashamed it is totally morally wrong he deserves his chance even if he doesnt succeed so i voted as a consultant / director

Sorry if I'm covering old ground here but can't be bothered reading seven pages of replies :50:

From the first time I heard the mentor tag be mentioned I've thought that the only man Lenny would like for this role would be MON - pretty sure he managed him at three clubs (could be wrong about Wycombe). I'm sure even if doesn't happen in an official capacity Lenny will be on the phone picking his brains now and again.

If MON fancies a season out it might be that a part time role would suit him and lets be honest he doesn't really have anything to loose. I think the only concern would be that Lenny may feel undermined by his pressence.

Anyway in general I think it's a good idea to have him back as Director of Football or whatever title they're going to put on it, don't think it'd necessarily be good to have him back as manager (although I love him and always will for what he did first time round) that sort of thing seldom work. As long as Lenny and MON both know and fully understand their roles.
