Give the man a chance and see.
I think the treble will be his main target.

    I wouldn't be disappointed.

We need someone similar to Lennon to continue what he started four years ago. Keane also has that typical fiery Irishman image surrounding him and I firmly believe that our players would play for him. He also has more experience at this stage of his managerial career than Lennon did when he initially took charge.

Garcia and Laudrup I think have ridden on the coattails of Poyet and Martinez/Rodgers, they are unproven at actually changing teams for the better. I wouldnt want either of them.

Clarke is tricky as he's clearly a good coach but im not sure if he has the personality to manage, he seems a bit of a * who could get the * taken out him and not a strong enough character to manage on his own. Ideally we'd have something like Keane with Clarke as assistant, a guy with the leadership, arrogance and aggression to lead and manage but with Clarke there as the buffer between the squad and to coach the players and keep a lid on things.

Jansen did a great job but only stayed one year. Venglos is remembered for bringing Moravcik and not much else, might have played some nice football but weren't competitive at all with the huns under him.

This idea of appointing unknown European/south American coaches is fine as long as it works out and even if it does work out they'd probably * off after a year like Pochetino did at Southampton. Pochetino I reckon will end up failing at Spurs a graveyard club with delusions of grandeur.

Anyway * all that, if it's Keane I'll be happy to support him and will be confident of success.

Exactly this. I'm much more excited by Keane than Coyle or Mackay, so long as Park and Lawwell continue to make the signings. I assume Moyes and Clarke weren't interested. You are right, though: we jave a policy of biying players from undervalued markets, why aren't we doing the same for managers? Are we even looking in places like Chile or Venezuela or Australia, etc?

I have a sort of nervy excitement about the idea of him being manager.

I think you're being unfair to Venglos. He had a lot of problems to deal with that weren't his fault and the huns were spending an absolute fortune that year. He didn't just bring in Lubo, either; he also brought in Mjällby and Viduka- guy could spot a player. Most of the ridicule came from the press.

Very surprised that this poll is this close. I can only guess that a lot of people on here are putting a brave face on.

Good Points: Doesn't take * from the players and from the media and demands full commitment and effort.
Bad Points: Rules through fear rather than respect. Tendency to lose respect from the players.
    Doesn't develop young talent.
Spends a fortune on players who are quite old in footballing standards.

Venglos had a bit of a shaky start but came in very late I'm sure. Not only did he bring in lubo but also viduka who is one of the best front men I've ever seen playing in our shirt - and had to cope with all the probs that encountered with him initially with going AWOL etc. It was also Dr Jo that changed Larsson into the player we all knew. Also bought Mjalby, guy was a crackin coach very knowledgeable and could spot talent. Left too soon was only there a year, if he was there for the next he would have proved it in spades. Pushed out with a little help from the media.

Why will pochetino fail at spurs? seems a crackin coach too

Wouldn't be the worse appointment. He might have a sketchy career so far but I'm hoping he has learned from his mistakes.

The man is strong willed, confident and determined - they can help.

However, there are far better and more adventurous appointments from Europe that we could have done - I'm not just talking about Laudrup et al.

Personally I am surprised that they have approached Keane and even more surprised that he appears to be the guy they want.

Keane, if his previous history is to go by isn't slow at making his opinion known. He's far from being a "Yes Man" which to some extent Lenny became. To qualify that point, the examples of the signings made during his time. Let's face it some of these guys clearly weren't what he wanted, Gershon for half a a season when we needed a longer term addition. Bangura to a certain extent was similar, although it's possible to argue that Diawara might not have even came to Celtic. A few other questionable acquisitions who failed to register more than a handful of games. I don't see Keane being willing to accept anything less than what/who he wants. That's why it surprises me that the interest appears to have gone beyond an initial "sounding out".

I have a few worries about Keane getting the job and until he appears in front of us I remain suspicious( have a wee feeling it might be a smokescreen). If it's him then he will get my backing. I am far from being "over the moon"about it but like every other manager he will get a chance to prove himself worthy of the job.

This is typical of the sort cloud cuckoo land nonsense that you come across with some supporters mainly on the internet. There is an option to go with a young Euro or South American coach, but that approach is not without risk either. Other than that of the names that have been linked, and that we could realistically get, Keane tops that list.

    No.

A very uninspiring choice as manager. Never liked him. Arrogant. Petulant. Thinks he is better than he really is.

    Spent a fortune at Sunderland.....fail!

Blames everyone else for his failings.

In fact, he really gets on my t#ts!

    F@ck off, Keane!
