International matches he has been key to Argentina at times, especially when they've been struggling.

if people like Cech get on the list, Riquelme should be, because I know who's had a better year.

and why was this thread moved when its about Artur Boruc, isn't he a Celtic player any more ?

well done to the big man in at 52nd! :icon_mrgreen: I think scholes should be in this list and i dont know how people dont think he shouldnt be in it! For the 2 barca midfielders Iniesta and Xavi they should be higher!

My thoughts exactly mate, Scholes is a great midfielder, great vision, just a brilliant playmaker.

and Xavi at 11th is laughable, as I rate him as the best midfielder in the world, and definitely better than Gerrard anyway.

Riquelme has had a shocking year, Cech's has been far better. Riquelme shouldn't be on the list.

Tell that to Czech Republic fans.

Cech has been * by his standards, Riquelme too, but he's been consistent form wise for Argentina when they've been struggling, him, Aguero and Messi.

How they play week in week out for their club is far more important. Cech's been fantastic, Riquelme has been awful.

the list is based on talent and form, which is why people from the championship aren't on it, regardless of their form.

I'd say Riquelme at least deserves to be in the 100 in the world, especially if Michael Essien is on it, who is a beast, and a great player, but he's been injured for about 6 months.

What do FourFourTwo base their facts on for this list? Anyone know?

    Form and Talent combined.

hence why no player from the championship is on it, even if he scored 50 goals in a season.

4-4-2 give the following description of how they compiled this list:

    (1) This list is our judgement of the best players in the world right now. It takes as its yardstick performances throught last season and the early stages of 2008-09. Form matters...

    (2) ... but it's not everything. Form, after all, is temporary, class permanent. So quality also counts - if Lionel Messi were injured for a year, would you really exclude him from your list of the best players in the world?

    (3) Although we've considered players from every league in the world, as you'd expect the English, Spanish, Italian, German and French leagues dominate. It's one thing to impress as a big fish in a little pond, quite another to do it against top-class opposition. Ask Mateja Kezman.'
