IMO, the Hurricane made the Rocket look more like a damp squib!

Fantastic player if not the best then certainly the most entertaining of the modern era, there is a 'but' though. He should get a grip his attitude comes across as lazy, there are tougher less well paid jobs than potting snooker balls. He needs a bit of a reality check.

I'm more of the opinion that if a guy who cannot be arsed most of the time, is only in it for the money and rarely plays in tournaments goes on and wins the * thing then all that says is the rest of the players out there are total *.

The rest of the players out there are clearly not * as the standard is as high across the board as it ever has been but yeah you're right it doesn't particularly show snooker in the best light when a guy can take a year long break then waltz back in and win the title. Which is another reason why he needs to sort out his attitude.

Absolutely no time for him. Great player, but his arrogance and attitude are a disgrace to the sport.

I think that's just romanticising about a bygone era. Ronnie O'Sullivan is the most naturally gifted player ever to pick up a cue.

Alex Higgins WAS genuinely exciting to watch! You didn't have a feckin clue as to what he was going to do next. Also, given his wildly chaotic lifestyle (much worse than O'Sullivans), then I think it's fair to say that he also had an incredible natural talent.

There's no way that man prepared himself mentally or physicaly for the sport, or practiced the way he should. He was * half the time we saw him play on the TV!

Ronnie comes across as whiney, and I don't really see where this great 'character' of his comes into things. Saying, "I was up and down more times than a whores knickers" on live TV at a time when youngsters may have been watching may lead some to conclude that he's a bit of a 'character', but to me it just says he's a bit of an *!

As can be seen by my sig, I love watching the guy play, as I have done for the guts of 20 years now. Which, now that I write it, seems * depressing!

Comes across like a * - in fact, last night I thought his speech was cringeworthy. However, plenty of other times his supposed hideous actions are blown out of proportion by people who don't like him just because he's cocky and frankly a * load better than anyone else around him.

Tournaments without him, or when he gets knocked out early, I watch with vastly diminished interest, sadly. When on song, as he has been for large portions of the last 2 years in the world championship event, there is little sight better in sport IMO. He is unreal.

PS - cheers again to Paul for the sig from a few years ago, which I still think is a * belter.

The Rocket is a genius on the snooker table no doubt about that, but for me he lacks class away from the table, some of his comments over the years have been embarrassing.

It's interesting when you compare Davis with Hendry, both are considered to be robotic in style but for me Hendry was a far more exciting player to watch.

Davis would always play a percentage game, splitting the pack would always be his last option, he tended to pick off any loose reds and then play a safety shot in an effort to force his opponent into a mistake, more often than not this style of play would pay dividends for him.

Hendry had a different approach to the game, he would favour a more attacking style of play, at times he was a risk taker, the power shot from the blue into the pack of reds would become a trademark of his game.

One thing both of them had in common is that they were and still are great ambassadors for the game and always conducted themselves in a civilised manner, this is something O'Sullivan would do well to emulate.

Hendry was only robotic in the way he would rack up centuries, frames and ultimately titles.

He was an excellent long potter and, as you say, breaking the pack at the earliest opportunity is something he evolved throughout the entire sport not just his own game.

I'm fairly sure Hendry himself has admitted O'Sullivan is the most naturally talented, very few would disagree, but sport is more than natural talent and Hendry had the desire and the determination to beat anyone that thought they could beat him.
