Great game that, not normally a fan of that long drawn out frames but that was actually pretty good to watch, glad trump won though, not a fan of that murphy.

I have absolutely no reason not to like him, I just don't. :smiley-laughing002:. There will always be a player that someone doesn't like for no real reason, he's mine. Who is it trump plays in the final? A trump - o'sullivan final would be a great match to watch.

the way Ronnie has been playing I don't think Trump will get past him. He's looking back to his best. Been really slick.

In saying that though if Trump can turn it on, play good safety then who knows.

I'm bored of hearing that pish from him now.

I've been a fan of O'Sullivan for pretty much his whole career but this constant 'woe is me, I'm retiring. Snooker doesn't do it for me anymore' attitude of his is starting to get on my nerves. If he's so fed up with the game then he should just retire and be done with it.

What does the guy want, sympathy? He has a * given talent for a sport and he has made a fortune by using that talent. Personally I think it's a sin for him to chuck it all away but if that's what he wants to do then it's up to him.

Just spare us the attention seeking 'poor me' speeches Ronnie.

The man is a flawed genius.

Hopefully he doesn't chuck it - you'll never see a better snooker player imo.

    All time imo.

    In terms of natural ability.

    Really?

I reckon Davis and Hendry would have made his head pop if his 'prime' had coincided with either of theirs.

Interesting also that you said, 'natural ability' as I was going to raise that subject in another post. It's a phrase that's become synonymous with the names Higgins and O'Sullivan. Both undoubtedly good snooker players, but both having huge mental flaws. I think it's kind of lost it's meaninga nd is given as a tag to excuse players who didn't live up to their potential.

For me that phrase should belong exclusively to the likes of Davis and Hendry... two boring-as-*, but almost flawless snooker machines. Their 'natural ability' is second to none!

Would you be surprised if I disagreed with you? :icon_mrgreen:

Nah, I tend to think of someone who is natural at something as someone who looks effortless in their distribution - O'Sullivan is THE prime example of a snooker player who glides along the table and pots balls so relaxed and laid back......* magic.

    A talented showman indeed.

The likes of Higgins and Davis etc have all the fact that they are better thinkers than O'Sullivan in terms of positional play and tactic - both absolute masters of it.

I'd say perhaps out of anyone, a young Stephen Hendry only comes close to O'Sullivan's raw, natural ability imo.

Agreed, Ronnie is just pure natural ability, watch his match against Bingham in the 7-1 session, his break building he practually potted every ball into the middle of the pocket from wild angles and all,
Any player who can break build the way he can at the speed he can play at, most of it is down to natural ability

I get where you guys are coming from.

I still think Davis and Hendry are far more 'complete' players and therefore deserve to be considered above him when it comes to determining who the 'best' players of all time were.

As you alluded to, snooker is part skill, part tactical nous and a whole lot of concentration. It's the last part that Ronnie has really struggled with.

TBH, I'd say that Higgins had more 'natural ability' than Ronnie. It was just that his even more chaotic lifestyle / addictions / mental illness's dragged him back. To achieve what he did (espeially in such a conservative era) was quite incredible!

I'd credit John Higgins as being the Rocky Balboa of snooker.

I'm pretty sure he meant Alex Higgins.
