    I don't know probably not.

Although I would like to think if PL got wind of a possible deal being done with a BIG name player then he might consider it.

    * knows who ye would get for 5m though. :smiley-laughing002:

We are miles off just now but we should be working towards that level, over the next ten years I'd want to see us get to that level.

The problem is wages and not transfer fees.

Most players around that bracket will be wanting more than £30k pw and that is just something we can't/shouldn't do.

Aye, hopefully. I have confidence in Ronny to do this.

The Portuguese model is based on bringing in investors as part-owners tomshare the risk. It'll be interesting to see how they cope now that they made that illegal

Shouldn't we though? I mean, are there many teams who make the Champions League group stages that don't pay any of their players over £30,000 per week?

At the moment I agree but I'm talking about in the future just now, if everything goes to plan. Say five years, five years of selling a player every season or every other season for £10m and getting £20m a season off of the Champions League.

On top of our usual season ticket sales, merchandise etc. I don't see why not.

There was an excellent piece written recently, which breaks down the financial position and trends of the club, and just one of the many things that are touched upon is the activity in the transfer market. Would highly recommend it to anyone that has bee or continues to be overly critical of the club and it's activities. Might just be a bit of a reality check for those longing for the big money signings. If for no other reason, the money in football today is vastly different from what it was 15 year ago, since the disproportionate expansion and inflation that the English game has bloated.

I dont think he could do that tbh. I think that may be against PLC rules. He does not own the club he is the majority shareholder.

Again to answer your question instead of signing 4 men on 15k per week at a 2.5 fee we could buy 2 players on 30k wages. If we wanted to we could it is just that we choose not to.

I am in favour of our signing policy for the most part but I would like to see it expanded. The problem with going for more expensive players is that it is riskier but also the rewards are better also. I think we must go down this road or this is as good as it will ever get.

Aye there is a time to stretch the purse strings tbh and maybe £30k is a a tad restrictive.

After we got put out by Juve I still firmly believe that was an opportunity missed to push on from there.

Who knows, If we can have get a decent showing in Europe under Ronny then that would be a time to push the boat out.

Denayer would basically be a sure thing, for example. Not 100% obviously but 90%+.

I know, I don't enjoy the fact that we * about and sign unknowns for 1.5-2.5 million and sit them on the bench etc, it annoys me. It would be good if we were a bit more ambitious, but I think this is as good as it gets.

Every time we manage to get to the last 16, we will lose 2 or 3 of our best players, sure we might sell them for 10 million quid but it is a constant game of rebuilding. Being in the group stages of the champions league is as good as it gets for me. I think it will be a long time until we're in the last 16 again unfortunately.

Which itself shows the risk of paying that kind of money.

Good link and article, it really puts into perspective what the club is up against financially. The future is building a strong youth developed first team and regular CL. Need to get the co-efficeint back up so we qualify automatically.

would very much doubt we,d spend that type of money on one player again and that is depressing . we,ll just have to wait till the rest of football comes back the way ...... unfortunately none of us will see that day as we,ll all be long dead .

Cheers Taz, it's worrying how dependent we are on CL football.
