I think he's mentioned a few times that what you're doing isn't working then you need to improve and do it better instead of changing, or something to that effect. I think he's reluctant to change it because he knows the team won't be as used to it.

Well - the first 6 months were Gung-Ho because the players didn't know how to track back and cover each other. They didn't even have the fitness to track back for a full game, as many of the players have admitted.

They never played possession football before, and they never played with attacking fullbacks and occationally attacking CB's.

There was confusion, fear and loathing. Irritation. Uncertainty. Things were not working.

It took half a season before the new system started to work.

So unfair to judge Deila, any player or the team on what happened during the first half of the season.

That was pure confusion and transition.

It's the same debate I remember having earlier on this board - did Ronny adjust the tactics or did the players finally learn the new system? I still think it's the players that adjusted

No, we changed it. Right after we got beat off of Dundee United and drew with County, the tactics changed. We were slightly more conservative.

Neil Lennon's team was littered with attacking play from the full backs and the previous year Van Dijk and Ambrose venturing forward, even Charlie Mulgrew the previous years from the back. The difference was covering it tactically.

It's very easy to judge a manager on how he went about implementing his changes, the penny dropped for him though and we're doing brilliantly now, we are in a strong position going forward, however some people are trying to whitewash the start of the season and Neil Lennon's tenure.

Yourself included, anti-football was the phrase you used I believe? Neil Lennon's team has the record for goals scored for Celtic in the Champions League group stage, he went away from home scoring 3 goals for christ sake, that's unheard of in Europe for Celtic.

It was far from anti-football under Lennon. Think people base that on the fact we had very little possession against Barca and that alone. I don't even think we placed anti football against them, in the home game we started with Commons, Samaras and Miku all on the pitch.

The best answer to the question comes from the players, and every single one of them have told more or less the same story:

A new manager with new ideas was met with some initial scepticism, but gradually people were won over and started getting on board with the new philosophy.

It took time for the new system to click.

People saying that Deila is "learning on the job" are exactly the same people who have been against him from day one. Just take note.

First they said he was the wrong guy. They wanted him out long before he had even had a chance to show what he is about.

When he started doing well they say that he WAS the wrong guy, but he is clever and has "learned on the job"

As if they were right all along - Deila is useless, but he is a clever *, adapting as he goes along, but he will ultimately FAIL IN EUROPE!!!

Did you sit with your eyes shut the whole time Neil Lennon was manager? :97:

    * *. What you've said there couldn't be any more wrong.

And they should have had Song and Mascherano sent off. First I've saw us beating Barcelona but not having more possesion than them as a baton to beat Lenny with though.

That was with me as well, happened far too suddenly and noticeably for it not to be tactical. It's insulting the intelligence of players like Scott Brown when people say * like before Deila he didn't know how to cover other players, he does what he's supposed to on the pitch, he always has done.

Champions league winners in 2018 and 2021 according to my FM 2013 save, but that was under my reign as a Celtic manager. Ronny out!

Tony Watt came on for Lustig, a right full aswell..

We played literally the only way we could to get a result against them and did it perfectly. Even in the away game it took something special in Iniesta's goal and a lapse of concentration from Forrest for them to beat us. Lennon got his tactics spot on, hard to believe anyone would argue against that.

I never used the term "anti football". That should be easy to check.

But I used the term "parking the bus".

Which is the strategy of a an inferior team, which knows it is inferior, even at home.

I hope we will progress beyond this strategy next season in Europe.

And I am confident that we will under the guidance of Deila.

No, I am sorry, I don't think so. As much as I wish!!!

Winning a final played in Vienna would be good though! :icon_mrgreen:

Parking the bus then, same thing. Personally I hope if we come against Barcelona that Deila doesn't think we aren't an inferior team, we are, in every single way we are an inferior team.

I take your point about the disparity in money, so the only way to complete is to somehow bring thru a youth team like the class of 92 and add some class additions towards the end of their careers in EPL.

I would invest money in youth coaches and have top level coaches coaching the teams at every age group.

If we met Barcelona again, I hope we will try to bring the game to them, at least here at Paradise, instead of sitting back in awe, like every other team that loses to them.

Parking the bus at home is embarrassing.

We should play to win against any team.

    Home and away.

Then we would get absolutely * raped. I'd rather beat them.

    Like most other teams don't.

If younthink that's how we progress as a team or even if you think that!s what happened when you beat them, then you are clueless about football. I'm leaning towards that anyway, since you didn't think we've ever played with attacking full backs under Neil Lennon.

Never knew beating barca was embarrassing.

Seriously going at inter milan is one thing, going at a barca or bayern is something completely different. Its something called stupidity.

We should be going for a win at home against any team in Europe.

They are not going to grant us any points away.

Any progression will have to be made here at Paradise.

Might as well fight for the points instead of giving up!

    * sake!
