That was a very good Hearts side. We were one game away from letting them go out of site at one stage. That Hearts side would win the SPL now.

    He wasn't hounded out?

It was his time to go. In fact scratch that, it was a year after his time to go.

Because Celtic fans these days are fickle. Shame though, we were pretty good then.

    I agree with that.

It was Strachan's time to go, just unfortunate that we went and picked Mowbray as his successor.

I liked WGS and appreciate everything he done for Celtic, but it was his time to go.

The Huns hit all time lows in terms of European results. They were even worse under PLG than they were last season. All time lows in terms of ability? How was their team last season worse than the one which contained Sebo, Sionko, Letizi and Ugo Ehiogu?

Strachan had much more backing from the board than Lennon did. Could you honestly see the board currently going out and signing Roy Keane or Thomas Gravesen?

Strachan done it in Europe at Parkhead but his away performances were every bit as bad as the ones we've witness recently. Seems some of you have forgotten that. Remember Benfica away? Aalborg?

Nonsense. They were good for Hearts' standard but they weren't a brilliant side. The fact you think that just highlights how awful that Huns side actually was.

was and still am a big fan of gordon strachan , remember saying when he left that we would not appreciate what we had till he left , the guy was a winner with every club he played with and a winner with us . his manner at times was criticized he did,nt suffer fools and treated the press with contempt when they tried any nonsense , he knew how to take the heat off the team after a bad result remember the childbirth comment that caused an uproar deflecting bad press from the team . he was a very clever manager but not without fault , dropping mcgeady at ibrox for a half fit maloney was big mistake . but on the whole i thought he did a good job and probably would have made 4 in row if the board had signed fletcher from hibs .

But the standard of the SPL has dropped further since then. We are poorer (just compare us in Europe now and then), so are Rangers and so are Hearts and the rest of the SPL. An average side can look superb if the opposition is rotten. I think because the whole SPL has sunk at the same time we are not seeing just how poor we are. All I will say is look how we do in Europe and it reveals the truth. Between 2003 and 2008 Scottish teams twice reached the UEFA final and three times the CL last 16. Since then? We have disgraced ourselves in the Europa three times in a row now, not even making its groups stages the last two times. We have fallen as a force along with Rangers. The whole standard has fallen and performance in Europe reveals the truth.

Strachan wasn't hounded out by anyone, he was always going to go after his fourth season.

We have always been rotten away in Europe, even MON.

Yeah, it was really terrible winning 3 in a row, reaching the last 16 of the champions league twice and winning trophies every single season he was in charge.

You could argue the toss all day about who is better between strachan and O'neill. O'neill had more money and better players not to mention one of our best ever, Strachan reached the last 16 twice and O'neill couldn't manage it once. Strachan managed 3 in a row, O'neill got to a European final. There are all sorts of points you could put forward. I don't look at it that way, the simple answer is they were both hugely successful and i had amazing times under both managers. You keep bringing up how good Rangers were. What the * does that have to do with anything? You can only play the Rangers that is put in front of you. It's hardly strachan's fault they were pish at times. Besides, it's a non argument. How can Rangers being * explain us beating the likes of man utd and AC milan and reaching the last 16 twice? Was that the fault of Rangers being *?

How can anyone call a spell under a manager who won us trophies every single season, win 3 in a row, take us to the last 16 and beat some of the best teams in Europe, *?

Unfortunately there are many fans who, for some deluded reason, actually hate to aknowledge the fact that Strachan was right up there with MON.

His record with Celtic speaks for itself.

One of the biggest mistakes Celtic have ever made in recent years was sacking Gordon Strachan one of our most successful managers since Jock Stein and replacing him with "Celtic Minded" Mowbary the same guy that turned us into a laughing stock.

From tearing apart Benfica at home beating AC Milan 2-1, Man Utd 1-0 to getting pumped from * nobody's.

Strachan walked like he always intended to do, he wasn't sacked.

The football was boring and a bit stodgy, though it did bring success. You have to credit Strachan for the job he did in many respects, but it was seriously hard to watch at times.

I actually think his team got progressively poorer every year.

strachan wasn't sacked he left! and ffs did no one watch his team in his last season? does no one remember how awful they were towards the end? he left at the right time, it was the board that * up by hiring that muppet mowbray; we are still suffering from that appointment today

lennon is dealing with the result of the "downsizing" of the club that started before gordon even came along; it's been a long slow decline back into european mediocrity and neil lennon can't be blamed for that when it's been the club policy since seville; that was the year we should have really went for it but our generous benefactor desmond said enough was enough; now look were we are

horsed out of europe by * sion :nonono:
