As someone posted on another Celtic site, there is no mystery: WGS simply rates Maloney (even if nor 100% fit) higher than McGeady. He has been consistent about this and when both are fit he always plays Maloney. Its a matter of opinion if this is right but there were threads very recently where it seemed that a * of a lot of people agreed Maloney is the better player. I suspect this varies from week to week depending on whether Aidan has had a good or bad game. I think too much is being made of this anyway. McGeady is not known for doing that well at Ibrox and it was like for like. Both were pretty well closed down when on the pitch. I am just glad we have both and they may well both be first choices when Naka goes.

I think we need to keep this simple instead of thrashing around saying everything is terrible. IMO, the real factors that cost us yesterday were lack of good striker options and the unavailability of both of our more attacking CMs. These are probably the reasons why we didnt have a cutting edge to match the possession.

That struck me as a possible reason too. Aidan uses pace and the outside of the player and puddling tends to slow the ball and get under your feet, making Aidans style hard to do. Shaun cuts inside more and passes more, something that is easier in these conditions. Shaun was not wonderful but he did OK in a game where there was never going to be much space.

wether you think maloney is a better player or not, the guy was out for so long, to play him at ibrox was a massive massive mistake.

:50: AS I keep saying a very poor mans version of the Chelsea v Barca game. Unfortunately they have Iniesta and Crosas had a chance to at least hit the target but his composure deserted him and he hit it about 25ft off target.

We could have started with Aiden and Maloney in a 4-5-1 ?

Hmmm... McGeady left and Maloney right, Hartley, Naka and Crosas in the middle? That would be interesting to see.

Naka floating off the loan striker mate.

Or Maloney, Naka and McGeady taking turns as the 2nd striker ?

No. Not with the formation WGS played yesterday. Had he went 4-5-1, then I could see the point on playing McGeady. Maloney is the better of the 2 but I can see the point of his lack of games.

At the end of the day, McGeady would have been as ineffective as Maloney or as creative as Maloney yesterday. They were up against Davis who is their best player imo.

That would be awesome to see. Although, Robo could have started instead of Crosas.

True. I think in this line up, we have O'dea at LB and tell him to defend and not go forward as we have enough attacking players on the pitch.

No, no, no. We need both of our full-backs to push forward. I personally think that Darren did quite good.

In a 4-5-1 mate I'd love to see him play more centrally, but not in a 4-4-2 we's be too lightweight. McGeady on one wing and Maloney on the other and restrict our FBs from going forward too much.

IMO we get exposed at the back with our FB's playing too far forward. I'd like to see our defenders defend as a priority.

Can't say you're right. We have Hinkel who is, in my opinion, very good in both offensive and defensive tasks and he does well all the time. On the other hand, we have Naylor...

Fair do's mate. Different opinions are what makes it interesting.

I actually thought Hinkel was our best man yesterday. But his performance summed up my issues with him - I feel he is better going forward than he is at defending, and he wasn't blameless for the goal.
