    From wiki;
    Protestantism
The basis of the modern Orange Order is the promotion and propagation of "biblical Protestantism" and the principles of the Reformation. As such the Order only accepts those who confess a belief in a Protestant religion.

If you go by their law,if you are an OO member and attend any sort of Catholic service, you should be kicked out of the OO.

    Pure nonsense.

Of course it is nonsense....everything about their existence in a modern society is nonsense. The only good thing about what i read up on tonight, is that their numbers are definitely falling......not fast enough, but still!

Totally agree with mygirlmaria but my problem is why let so many of these marches happen rid acotland off bigotry? Singing songs at each other is one thing but parading thro the streets is a whole different level. We go to football matches with a fair idea of what we're going to hear, be they right or wrong, different argument. If I'm in my own home, why is it right for a small minority of extremists to imppose it on me.

    * it..they should just be banned. There must be a way around it.All annual marches banned and special permission granted for protest marches on a one off basis...... or something similar.

The problem is intolerance...The fact that people are willing to fight over religion,in the 21st century,is deeply disturbing.Yes I am for Irish republicanism over British loyalism, however the solution to all of this is not blaming one side or whatever,it is eradicating the cancer and the bigotry in both Northern Ireland and in Scotland. It will take generations but it will be worth it.My mother is a protestant,my father is a catholic and I am agnostic. It should not be an issue but don't judge everyone by the mindless actions of braindead thugs.

first off, there is absolutely no chance that 4 million people or anywhere near that number are protestant.

like myself i would almost guarantee the majority of the population are non denominational(however you spell it).religion outwith catholicism i feel personally is a dying thing.young muslims don't follow there religion like there fathers and grandparents did in years gone by.

totally agree with you when you say the majority have never set foot in a church, and never will.and neither will there kids.but they will keep up with the '* *' * they spout.it will never go away.imo its more of a r*ngers and hearts fc problem than a scottish one.of course others also hate catholics but not the way they * do.

the hatemongers football club.well them and hearts.they are the breeding grounds for sectarianism and racism in this country.no churches imo anyway

One small problem about getting this farcical march banned..... Freedom of speech. You can march and rally about anything as you have the right to do so, it really is bollocks.
Orange Order are nothing but unmasked KKK and simply marching to promote racism and bigotry should not be allowed in this supposed educated society.

A Catholic can become Prime Minister....there's just never been one.
They can't advise the Monarch on the selection of Bishops, which is kinda a ceremonial tradition, rather than a proper duty of State.

A non Catholic/Jew member of the Cabinet could advise the Monarch on this subject in place of the Prime Minister, it would be pretty embarassing - but not "ILLEGAL"....unlike being on the line of Succession, whilst being a Catholic or married to one.

    As for a non Catholic Pope....C'mon :97:.

To be fair there's also the ancient order of the hibernians and you have to be catholic to join that. I don't like the orange order as much as the next normal person but the fact that they're not an armed group makes them legal and if someone challenged their legality I would stick up for their right, not because I like them, far from it. I think they're a rotten group but because I believe we have the right to be who we want and if some protestant wants to join the orange order they should have the right. And if I wanted to join the ancient order of the hibernians I could if I wanted, which I don't because I'm an atheist :icon_mrgreen:

The argument of the OO and the AOH being 'sectarian' on the grounds of non-Catholics only and Catholics only doesn't make it so.

In essence, both are 'clubs', and clubs reserve the right to who they wish to accept.

What goes on in the OO, on the other hand, is frankly sectarian. And, with their ties to Orange/Loyalist flute bands - as well as their sectarian song sheet- makes them nothing but sectarian.

They're very sectarian and I accept that Padmill, they hate catholics more than they love protestantism and they draw a lot of support from anti catholic loyalists. Thats hardly debatable :50: but I think they have the right to exist as much as any non armed group. Thats something I will accept as long as I have free speech.

But all these loyalist scumbags are Scottish planter descendants who brought there sectarian * over here with them so that make it a scotland problem spilled over to N.Ireland.

I was wondering something along those lines, when I entered our main town centre last night and was appalled (but not surprised) at the continuing trend to parade the notion that they're anything but people of Ireland, like me. If this notion of British is so fanciful, * off back across the water. We need to move on and have equality here, not continue bad habits.

    Button and flags down, please.
