its not forgotten, if you remember the sadness after that night you would know how hard it is to go into details and dissect the game. This was one of our greatest ever teams who probably should have won the European Cup but unfortunately came up short on the night against a Feyenoord team who were the forerunners of many Dutch teams who ruled European football for years.

Having two European Cups would be unreal. And the thing is, we really should have two.

That is why I find all the talk of the 1970 Final, very hard to take – and I wasn’t even alive to see it!

Complacency was the biggest thing. We had beat Benfica, Fiorentina and then probably the favourites Leeds United on the road to the final and its been said in many players books that they took Feyenoord to lightly.

Think this result led to the premature departure of most of the Lisbon Lions.

I think we should remember what was actually achieved during that period by Jock Stein and the Lisbon Lions, yes we lost in the prelim round of the European Cup in 1968 to Dynamo Kiev, however putting that freek result aside Celtic also reached the final again in 1970,I think we also reached semi-finals and quarter finals between 1965 and 1974. What a marvellous achievement for our club, no one wanted to come to Glasgow at that time, very few returned home without having lost to Jock Stein's Celtic.

It was a golden era for Celtic in Europe, that team could've won 3 or 4 European cups.

it's because we beat Leeds (the best team in the world at that time) in the semi finals which were dubbed the final before the final. So we were capable of more.

I think we are not really being respectful to Feyenoord by looking at a multitude of excuses....because that is what they are, excuses. They won it and were followed up by their great rivals Ajax who then won 3 in a row, who in turn were followed up by Holland being the greatest ever team not to win the World Cup in 74.....so i think we should give them the credit for winning it against a top team(us).

Check the OP again, mate. I did profess that the team were deserving champions and they certainly showed they had the ability, and they didn't win by chance. No one is robbing them of their victory.

I created the thread to enlighten myself as to why we do not already discuss the final, and why that might be, as we have shown to be gracious in defeat on other occasions.
