One parents half were Celtic, the other parents half were Rangers, so it was really just 50/50 which one I ended up supporting.

Just by chance my father took me to Parkhead before my Grandfather (RIP) took me to Ibrox.

Was lucky that both sides were extremely open minded and would have accepted me no matter what team it ended up being though.

Partly due to my dad supporting Celtic, but I did like the players and the style of football that we play. So the decision was kind of half and half and I know I made the right choice.

Dad took me to my first game when I was 5 yrs old. Since that very first day sitting on the wall of the jungle, the noise the smell of pash, and alcohol addicted me to Parkhead. Started going on my own when I was about 10-11. Huge European nights against Juve (Murdo's goal against them is first Euro goal I seen in person).

Ive lived and worked in the Middle Est now for the 5 years and watch every game I can either on CelticTV or Al Jazeera. Still keep my season bool but tbh haven't been to Parkhead for at least 6 years :55::55::55:

But they are still my first and only :49:

My Dad, and his side of the family, were Rangers fans (other side of family Hibs fans - I still have a soft spot for the Hibees). I grew up in the 9 in a row era where Rangers were winning everything. Something about the triumphalism didn't sit right with me, and I always preferred the underdog, and when I was a kid I just thought the Hoops looked so cool. So I told my Dad I was going to follow Celtic, and to his credit he took it in good heart and we always had a banter. My first football memory is the Skol Cup final in (I think) 1990, when I would've been 8 or 9, Paul Elliott put us in front with a low header but McCoist and Hately scored for Rangers second half. I remember my Da saying 'are you disappointed son?' at the end and I was, but from that moment on I was a Celtic fan.

Why did you become a Celtic supporter

Because it was the right club for me, the fans had a political element, it was different from the rest. But that was back in the late 70's.

The 80's were great being a Celtic fan.

Even the 90's were good as we had a good support.

It started going wrong supporter wise from the mccann years and bit by bit great fans have been priced out the game and a different type of fan has taken over.

The club has went in a different direction to what most fans identified as Celtic. But some modern fans wouldnt understand.

With respect, the early nineties were A * nightmare. A succession of * managers, second rate players, getting beaten by deadco.

McCann and burns were the turning point. The white and kelly families had run the club into the ground.
Burns team was sensational. It was fast flowing attacking football, where we regularly put 3,4 or 5 goals away each match.

I agree the match ticket prices are excluding some fans and that should be addressed. But the club is now in a healthy position and has a very bright future.

Just hope that Lennon can start bringing thru the kids in this period of dominance.

The football was *, and losing all the time was not pleasant but we had a togetherness back then, camaraderie.

A lot of that is missing nowadays since we became successful.

    Of course he did
and my dad lifted me over the turnstile.
And every man in line would give a kid a lift over the turnstile.
and I watched wee jinky , and the champions of Europe for free.
and the SPL wonders why they cant get more kids going to games now.

My dad always took me to games when I was wee, and I was in the huddle club and all that jazz. For anyone who doesn't know the huddle club is what you can join between the ages of 6-12 and are a celtic fan. Your parents pay monthly I think and you get sent stickers and posters and celtic magazines every month. Also every month there is a draw and one lucky huddle club member gets to be the mascot.

When I was 12 (about 10 years ago) I got chosen to be the mascot for a home game against hibs. I turned up, was given a Celtic strip and got me meet all the payers as well as tons of old greats, I remember meeting Jimmy Johnstone and I don't think I'll ever see my Dad so star stuck and in awe of anyone in my life, it's kinda like what I was like when I met Larsson.

It was about the time it was coming out that Henrik Larsson was going to leave us for Barcelona and when I met him all I could say to him was "Please don't leave" and he just laughed and asked me what the score would be, I said 5-0 and he laughed and said he hoped it would be.

Big Johan was the captain obviously and led me out onto the park, he was really really nice to me and held my hand because I was * myself, every single player seemed 8 foot tall in that tunnel.

When i got out to the park I got to flip the coin so they could choose the sides, and hoopy the hound came over to take me off the pitch, I ran off the pitch doing Henrik Larsson's celebration and there was a picture of me doing that on the following issue of the celtic view, it's a picture I've still got on my computer at home and if I was on it I'd post it up.

We ended up winning 6-0. I still remember who scored, Sutton and Hartson got 2, Henrik 1 and Petrov also got 1.

I know I was 12 but I still think that was the best day of my life, and that's why I * love this football club. Also I consider myself to be a lucky mascot! :smiley-laughing002:
