I was bought liverpool tops, made to watch thier games when I was really young but never felt anything. I cant really remember always meant to look it up but i was about 7 and us and liverpool had won a cup and I remember my family watching the liverpool team bus and supporters parade, I walked into a nieghbours house with my friend and his dad was watching the celtic parade, thats was it, the tricolours the hoops it just felt right. Same friends dad started bringing me to scotland to see games and my family raged, this was at the start of their cheating 9 but I didnt care about results, alot of pain but look at us now!

Thought I'd bump this thread for my first post seeing as my story will be different to most on here.

I was never really into football when I was young. Dad was a big Celtic fan, season ticket holder etc etc, and he was always trying to take me to games. He even bought me my own season ticket but I never used it and he'd always end up going to the games with a pal or even by himself if he couldn't find someone to use my ticket.

He continued buying me a season ticket every year in the hope that I would change my ways, I never did.

One day my mum got a phone call from Celtic asking if I wanted to be the child mascot for the Celtic vs Manchester United friendly. My mum, knowing that I didn't really care for football, asked if she could call back after talking to my dad about it. My dad instantly said "He's doing it. I don't care what he says, he's doing it." so my mum phoned back and accepted it, unbeknownst to me.

I wasn't overly keen but I went along with the idea, how bad could it be?

From the instant I walked into Celtic Park I loved it. I loved everything about it. I'll never forget walking out onto the pitch and I've been a Celtic fan ever since, much to the joy of my dad as he can now finally go to games with me :smiley-laughing002:

The game itself was pretty poor, we lost 3-0 if I remember correctly, but I didn't really care. I now knew why my dad had always wanted me to go to the games with him and I knew I'd be back.

I got all the autographs and pictures and it was just the best day.

The ref even let me flip the coin and I managed to dome Paul Scholes in the heed with it :50:

So I'm incredibly lucky that I was offered the chance to be the mascot as there's a very good chance that without it I would never have became a Celtic fan.

Too Long Didn't read: Didn't like football --> was child mascot vs Man United --> loved football.

Good to hear mate. I was a mascot way back in 1983. Great experience. Still remember everything. Taking penalties in the warm up against big Packie. Great stuff!:50:

    You'll Never Walk Alone
My great grandparents from Donegal were Celtic supporters, as was my Grandad, my dad and my older brother. I was born into it but I do remember a conversation with my Dad when I was 4 years old in our dining room:

"Dad, what football team do I support?"

    "Whoever you want."

    "Who's the best?"

    "Celtic."

    "I'll support Celtic then."

That was that. Not long after, I was going to my first game at Parkhead v Dunfermline. I remember feeling absolutely overwhelmed at the stadium when I first saw it, then even more so when I walked in. I'd give anything to that sense of wonderment and awe, that I felt that day, once more. My Dad bought me my first scarf that day too, still have it.

If I remember correctly, we won 5-2. I was hooked from then on. We didn't have season tickets at first due to my Dad's work commitments but I started checking the Celtic View every week and kept asking which games we could get tickets to.

My Dad died when I was 16 and Celtic Park is one of the few places I still feel close to him, he used to always brush his hair with these black combs. So I take one of them to every game that I go to now; I know it's a bit daft but I don't care.

On another note, I was supposed to be born at the start of 4th May, but I was late, by 16 days. The day I was actually born, this happened:

That game had something to do with me becoming a fan aswell. Was doing one of those celtic football camps that week of the game and the grandparents surprised me with the new third kit at the time, they wore it that game I'm sure. Then a few days later I went to the flag day against Kilmarnock , beat them 4-1. While I had supported them before , that week or 10 days got me hooked on the club.
