He was pretty good at Swansea - on a budget too. Although some argued the foundations were laid for him by Martinez.

But aye he was alright at Liverpool. He's reputable and can attract footballers Lennon and Lambert couldn't.

Unfortunately that's not good enough nowadays mate...Keane would still have a reputation I reckon..Personally I dont see the big deal with Rogers..as you said done alright with Swansea with a team already there doing well.. Liverpool had one good season but with a striker on fire...

Personally I think Rogers is a spoofer and reminds me for some reason of Mowbray

That's about 40 years spending with us......so that rules out Rodgers.

Just looked at Rodgers' transfers at Liverpool there. I don't think they're too bad. There are always going to be some duds but most of Liverpool's better players this season are all players he's bought.
Benteke (price) stands out a bit but he was decent at Villa and Klopp just doesn't seem to fancy him.

But wasn't there some transfer committee or something at Liverpool?

In fairness they have had a fairly average league campaign..Also do managers down south care what they spend on players when they seem to have an endless stream of money...get one or two signings right they are deemed transfer magicians...

Personally I'd take Moyes out of who has been mentioned but I'd prefer none and like Celtic to try and think outside the box, surely there are better coaches around than whats been mentioned...

    Thank *.

I'm now confident it won't be Roy Keane.

I know loads of people will look at keane's second season at Sunderland as a reason to rule him out (as he got them promoted in his first)but there has been a shitload of managers unable to do anything with them since

When I read through the list of Keane's signings at Sunderland, the one that struck me (against some pretty tough opposition!) was Paul McShane. He is and always has been a league 1 or 2 player at best - the fact that Keane spent a fortune on him (and 5.5 million on Kieran Richardson!) shows that he can't be trusted with a budget.

I really hope that this Keane gossip is crap - unfortunately I accept it's very unlikely to be Rodgers or MON. However, I still think there is a real chance Moyes may come - if he doesn't get the Villa or Everton jobs, it must be clear to him that, in order to get back into management in a "top" league - he has to re-establish himself and there is no bigger opportunity open to him than Celtic (CL etc). Frankly, if he turns it down (or keeps us hanging) over money - after getting 5 - 7 million from Man Utd then he can GTF.

If we can't get Rodgers, Moyes or MON - then I'll take Lambert or Clarke. Lambert is less "Celtic Minded" but - even if he sees it as an opportunity to get back in the EPL in 2/3 years - so what? His route to doing that is success with Celtic.

Clarke was treated harshly by West Brom (8th in the EPL) and Reading - I think he's a good coach and very keen on Celtic - I would be OK with giving him a chance.

I know I'll get hammered for this but I'd give it to Hartley before Lennon. He has had 5 years in management - been successful with Alloa and Dundee - and has an eye for a player (Stewart, Hemmings). I heard him interviewed before Dundee began their first season back in the SPL and he was very impressive. Frankly talks a lot more sense than Lennon's single transferrable interview and blaming the players. People's memories of Lennon are very selective - the fact that he is effectively begging for the job shows how desperate he is - he is hardly fighting off job offers is he?

Given our current situation, I think appointing Lennon would not energize the fans and send out completely the wrong signals (club going backwards not forwards).

Appointing Keane would be a major risk - as would Michael O'Neill for different reasons.

I personally would not want anything to do with Celtic if MacKay was associated with the club.

I'd love MON or Rodgers. If not, I'd work my way down the "practical" list in this order.

    Moyes
    Lambert
    Clarke
    Hartley.
