Michael O'Neill ahead of Brendan Rodgers?

Huh? O6 play pretty boring football, Rodgers plays exciting football for me it's no contest.

Hailing from the 6 counties, I would be delighted to see a fellow Irishman in charge at Paradise but only if its the right one.

Keane - no * way! Last (and only) success as a manger almost a decade ago. Dismal failure at Ipswich and Aston Villa. How can DD even think of giving this man a 15m transfer budget after reading that list of abysmal signings he made at Sunderland? Only acceptable as an assistant to Saint Martin (which won't happen).

Lennon - no. For the reasons I outlined in my post yesterday. A major backwards step for the club. No-one else is looking at Lennon as a manager and there's a reason for that!

Michael O'Neill - no. Another Laurie Sanchez for me. Has done great with NI - however, so did Sanchez against better opposition generally (beat England and Spain). However, Sanchez was a disaster as a club manager.
O'Neill's record as a club manager is patchy and there is nothing to suggest that he has the ability to take a club the size of Celtic forward.

I think Rodgers is bound for Swansea - pity. However, Moyes is 16/1 with PP for Villa Job (behind about 6 others) and 8/1 for Everton job (behind about 5 others). I think if Moyes doesn't get either of those - he needs to wake up and realize that he needs to rebuild his reputation and there is no better opportunity to do that than Celtic.

I would love to get Moyes in (if Rodgers or MON don't come) but he needs to stop * around - we can't wait too long.

Failing that I would settle for Lambert, Clarke and Hartley in that order.

To be honest, outside of these, I would rather have a total outsider than Keane, Lennon or Michael O'Neill.

How far ahead do you think the board is in appointing a new manager. I am sure they are working in the background to find a new manager. Rumors have it there are some already been spoken too or even interviewed. Could they already have an agreement but are waiting till Ronny leaves before making announcement? The only thing we know is the club did say they wanna announce the new manager before the end of May.

I am certain it wont be Rodgers or MON, both will be on too high a wage and we cannot compete. Moyes should be willing to take a step down since his reputation is in tatters, then there are also some decent managers without a job that would be interested in us Lennon, Mackay, Person, Evans are some examples.

Quite frankly, I'd be amazed if Celtic weren't already working their way through a list - they'd be pretty unprofessional if they weren't given the proximity of the CL qualifiers.

I can understand not wanting to say anything in public before the league was clinched. However, that's done now and that's as much consideration as Deila deserves - if they named a new manager tomorrow, he'd hardly turn up at the trophy presentation!

I agree with you (unfortunately) that it almost certainly won't be Rodgers or MON. As I said before, if Moyes is overlooked for the Villa and Everton jobs - he needs to realize that Celtic is by far his best opportunity to re-establish himself. He got millions from Man Utd so he needs to show some ambition not greed - even if he sees us as an opportunity to get back to the EPL in 2 - 3 years, that's fine because he needs to be successful here to achieve that.

I don't think he'll get the Villa job and MON, Koeman, De Boer and Pellegrini are better candidates for Everton.

Celtic need someone in place by May 31 at the latest so I think anyone at the Euro's is out. If Moyes won't commit by May 31 - then we need to move on.

I really don't want us scrabbling around in mid June and then giving it to Lennon or MacKay out of desperation.

If Rogers, Moyes or MON are out - the I would go for Lambert, Clarke and Hartley in that order. None of them are likely to say no.

Actually I would expect the board to delay the announcement til at least all the games are played in respect to Ronny. So even if they already got their man, we won't get an announcement till after Ronny leaves.
May 31 is probably the absolute latest and later and there would be too little time before the CL qualifier in early July. So I agree it wont be someone from the Euros (i.e. Keane and MON).

Moyes would be an appointment that 99% (there is always one or two) would be satisfied with. Knows the club and knows how to work with a budget based on his Everton days. Realistically he is the best candidate we can get.
Lambert is our next best shout. But I don't think his heart is with this club, he would be one who will leave as soon as he gets a better offer or opportunity.

I am also against Lenny coming back. Think he would not take the club forward and would likely mean the least change to the current squad when what we really need is a overhaul (especially need to offload at least 5 midfielders + Efe).
But if we plan to go for someone like Michael O'Neil, Mackay, Hartley, Coyle , Stubbs or some other inexperienced gamble then I would take Lenny over them any day.

No room for sentiment with CL qualifiers to prepare for. If they have their man then they need to get him in now.

me too, also from another (un) reliable source that when they grace the doors of Paradise to say 'WE ARE HERE TO HELP DELIVER 10 TITLES IN A ROW', behind them there will be a tongue of David Moyes up their arseholes.

If the board are NOT talking to someone or dont already have it tied up then they are not doing their * job (as usual). All this talk of holding back an announcement in respect to Ronny is bollocks. Man city announced Guardiola * months ago and did it respectfully to Pellegrini. Whats happening now is that they are trying to get someone decent (to save their own skin), but trying to get them as cheaply as possible. And rather than these particular candidates holding back to see what epl clubs come for them, i would suggest that the board are holding back hoping that no epl clubs come in for them and they take the Celtic job as a last resort. Offer a decent wage and a decent transfer budget and you might just get a decent manager * sake. Or just give the * job to Lenny or Malky, you know you want to. I wish to * this penny pinching, ambitionless, condescending, useless board would * off along with Ronny. Prepare to be dissapointed, why?........ cause we always are.

Respect and possible that old Pellegrini has went * you and on the verge of no being in CL.

I agree that moves must be made, but on Monday we should have the name of our manager then.

Given the early start for Champions League qualifiers and season ticket renewals. I would expect an announcement after the weekend. I think it would be naive to think that they haven't spoken to a number of people and have been negotiating with at least two possibly 3 individuals over the last week.

I reckon Desmond knows how important this decision is to the fans and ultimately to the money entering the club. This time next week we should know who the new manager will be.

Since the transfer window opens on June 9th (4 weeks on Thursday) they should get the new manager in pretty quick.

Rodgers would be a truly fantastic appointment. I thought he was quite unlucky at Liverpool. A signing of this stature suggests the board might actually part with some transfer funds as well. He wouldn't take it otherwise.

    How good would that be?
Champions of Europe in 2018/19. Then sacked in 2019/20 to make way for Roy Keane :56:

If Man U get 4th then they'll keep LVG. That means Mourinho has moved in from being extremely unlikely to just very unlikely.:icon_mrgreen:
