Not for me. I couldn't care less what clubs people chose to support either.

Why can't people with Irish ethnicity support Ireland? You wouldn't ridicule someone of Indian descent supporting India.

Scotland, but i like to see Ireland, doing well if you care what team people will support it's honestly pathetic in my opinion who cares.

I get it if your parents are Irish and their parents are Irish. That wouldn't be anything to do with supporting Celtic, more than having a stronger family tie to one country over another. A friend of mine was born and raised in Scotland but have parents, grandparents, wife, and pretty much all extended family who are Irish. He supports Ireland ahead of Scotland and I can totally see why that is the case (though I could see why he would support Scotland as well). I have another Scottish sounding friend who thinks of himself as English first for the same reason.

Supporting a nation ahead of your own just because of a club team, or because your great grandparents came from that country, is daft in my opinion. But then I have never met or known anyone where that has been the case.

I did think perhaps the poll would have been better in the Scottish football section as I am guessing there aren't going to be too many Irish people supporting Scotland ( but if there are then good luck to them.) Although perhaps the OP wanted to catch the views of people from neither Ireland or Scotland so fair enough it would have to go in here.

There have been threads on here before about Scottish born posters who don't support Scotland and why so I would guess there will be some who are supporting Ireland however as that scenario does not apply to me I will leave it for them to explain their reasons.

Should a person not have a right to support the nation he/she feels closest too?

I like Ireland and will support them in the other games, I have Irish roots through my Mums side of the family. But I just know where my loyalties lie when they play each other and would hope other Scottish and Irish people would too.

They have a right to support a team based on absolutely anything they please. It is just a game of football. I don't think this is a 'right of man' issue.

I don't mind Scottish people who support Ireland but I know a few Scottish people who don't support Scotland just because 'some huns play for them'. I personally find that a ridiculous reason.

I would say I don't have strong feelings towards the issue and I don't care but I still think reasoning like that is a bit sad and backwards.

I got a txt from a mate in Killie as soon as the draw was made "that's Ireland fecked then" which made me chuckle.

I know one of the games is in June but the other one is in November and I would say our bus up to the games around that will be good fun as I would guess the bus will be pretty much 50/50 between those supporting Ireland and those supporting Scotland.

I hope none of the Scottish supporters were born in England. If they were tell them they are not wanted.
