With the squad we have still got, unless we draw a shocker in the qualifying rounds, I DO expect us to qualify for the group stages. The players have experience now and I would be alarmed if any new manager came in and * it up.

Good players can explain every step they make on the field. It is useless to tell a player to run somewhere if he doesn't understand why that is necessary. Norwegian coaches tend to think too much for the players, but the hardest thing is to get the players think for themselves. To do so, I must ask the right questions," Deila said four years ago when setting out his philosophy. Stromsgodset's progress has been extraordinary since.

seem this happen a lot with our players through the years

Whether Deila will thrive here or not is a pointless debate atm only time will tell on that but the Celtic hierarchy deserve credit for giving the majority of fans the type of appointment we've been craving for, like a lot of people i have criticized "the board" a lot in the last year on numerous issues but in this case they have listened and took our views into account rather than just settling on the 35-40k season books sold and giving us no say or voice in the matter like most big teams do.

This is the most excited i have been since since Lennon took the job 4 years ago, only his CV was more empty than a sins of Struth board protest yet he got 100% backing,Delia actually has experience and a footballing philosophy so ffs give the guy the same backing and who knows,it may turn out to be an extremely successful appointment.

I expect the board to appoint someone that knows what they are doing and are capable of negotiating 3 Cls qualifiers as well. But not with someone else team. Cause that is what it will be. It will be Lennon's team, full of players he's seen in training a handful of times.

If we do get through them then that will give me more confidence going into the group stages but I certainly won't judge him if he fails to qualify with a group of strangers.

If we dont qualify for CL then i will be disappointed but by no means will it be the end of the world. What we should be looking for is an improvement in the way we are playing and if we can see that we are heading in the right direction then we gotta give him time to finish the job.....he wont be able to turn things round and get us playing the way he wants in a matter of weeks.....we gotta be realistic

Right. We need to remember that this guy has built his career on constant steady improvement, not on instant tactical and technical pyrotechnics. As long as he wins the league and has got his own team ready for the qualifiers in 2015, I'll be OK with his first year. Lenny will be a tough act to follow.

I read that he and the Director of Football at 'Godset had a great working relationship and their double act was the reason behind their success so im wondering if he will be coming with him?

I'd quite like that, probably all depends on whether Flo would be up for leaving Stromsgodset. If they work well as a pair, we might as well get them both in.

I agree, they will understand each other and what each wants on the park so would be a good partnership i think...altho cant see PL paying compo for both of them.

    Manager - Deila
    Assistant - Collins
    DOF - Flo

    Like the sound of that.

Good point. There hasn't even been any mention of Flo coming with Deila in any of the papers etc. so I'd be surprised.

He got backed once he was appointed but plenty of people, including myself, didn't want Lennon as manager. The roadshows were designed for that purpose - to 'sell' him to us.

Some of the criticisms here are hilarious. I know I am not brought up in Glasgow and is perfectly knowledgeable about the climate there but I have always learned to appoint a manager on his qualities. It might be a bonus to be a celtic man, and be good in dealing with the media, but if you look at the club Celtic are today and the type of manager Deila seem to be I must say that he is the best candidate that we can get at the moment. No he is not a Celtic man, but who says that he can't become? I don't care, I just want the best possible candidate of the job.

This was the text that a blogger wrote about Deila when he had been in Strömgodset a year: "a strong focus on youth, genuine player development, and a clever transfer policy. Deila was the perfect[IMG] fit. A young couch with extreme confidence in his distinct, offensive playing style, not only comfortable with the club’s low wage structure and limited transfer funds, but a proponent of it."

had a look through the stormsgodset squad ....( as we all know managers often sign players from their last team )

the standout player is LARS CHRISTOPHER VILSVIK ( right winger)

And also have a very good centre back (KIM ANDRÉ MADSEN)

Player with the most potential seems to be a 20 year old african central midfielder BISMARK ADJEI-BOATENG , who has been on loan to them from Man City, set to go back to City at then end of June . Has a goal in him and ronny is a huge admirer .

so maybe a few to watch ....

Despite what is says on Transfermarkt, Vilsvik is more of a right back. He's been the regular Right Back at Godset for the last few years. If there is one position we don't need to strengthen... :smiley-laughing002:

Vilsvik is a right back, so that would be pointless.

You're right though, might be interesting to see if he's wanting to bring anyone with him.

    Article from 2012.

    http://ahellofabeating.wordpress.com/2012/07/29/the-awesomeness-of-ronny-deila/

You can see why Lawwell has picked him from this sentence:

"When sporting director Jostein Flo promoted the then 32-year old Della from his assistant coach position before the 2008 season, it was an appointment made in line with the intended overarching philosophy of the club: a strong focus on youth, genuine player development, and a clever transfer policy. Deila was the perfect fit. "

Describes EXACTLY what we are trying to achieve with the club at the moment, he seems a perfect fit.

Surely he'll need to see what we have first without jumping in. We may have better players than he does. Hopefully not though. I'm looking forward to this. Hopefully it's not just because the club/press have done a good job selling him to us.
