I'm excited about this - it appears he is a coach with modern progressive ideas and who likes to play attacking football - sounds like 'the Celtic Way' to me.
I also want to believe he is the guy who can unlock Pukki's potential - I think Lennon gave up on him too soon and ruined his confidence. There's a lot more come from him, I'm sure.

Consider that Celtic could have got one of 'favourites' who are all currently unemployed but chose to instead pay out compensation, for a young coach whose stock has been rising in Europe. So the fact they are willing to make that investment says much about how much homework they have done on him.
Speaking of those 'available' unemployed guys we've been linked with - think there's a reason they are - and remain - unemployed?

It's unfortunate the timing of the CL qualifiers - does not give him much chance to get to grips with the squad and have them adapt to his preferred formations. So it's going to be a big ask. Hopefully the draw will at least be kind to us and give him some more time to prepare for the sequential rounds. Lets not forget Karagandy away last year - we can't afford one of those. If we can keep Virgil, then I think we'll be OK - FF, I'm not too bothered about to be honest, if we get good money that can at least be partially reinvested in a genuine quality striker, who is up to the CL. We just let go the only one we had who qualified in that dept. (what a dumb move)

Signing Deila shows a massive amount of ambition. I, personally, will be ecstatic if we get him.

It also adds a bit of excitement to the league. We'll be seeing a complete new team evolve before our eyes. If we don't make the CL then we'll at least have something to be interested in.

Mate, we're gona stroll the league most likely, why not go for a young upcoming manager? We could end up next year with a really good young manager who possesses all 3 qualities youve mentioned there, all 3 can be learned right here.

    ot..
I've no idea who this guy is I'll be honest but from what Ive read his team punched above thier weight in thier league, hes young, brings through young players and like to play nice passing football, wrong? He'll do me if so really excited now! :icon_mrgreen:

Do you think some one who has already proved himself a failure would be a better choice ?

it would be easy to get swept up in this wave of optimism around this guy and ok he won the norwegian league on a small budget, and apparently likes to play nice football .here he is going to be expected to win every game he plays nevermind not getting into the champions league imagine the pressure he would be under if he loses his first 3 games in the league .if he gets the job hopefully he has all the traits needed to be sucessfull here and not just someone who aint gonna get upset when he is told his top players are for sale every year

I reckon he'll keep on a good percentage of the coaching staff but bring one or two of his own in as well.

Would give a balance between having guys he knows and getting used to the club, league, set up etc. that bit easier.

I don't think any level headed Celtic fan expects him to qualify for the CL straight away. Though that would be a massive bonus. It won't be his team yet and he won't have had time to implement his ideas. So losing a qualifier 6 weeks into the job is acceptable.

In fact, having only the league would mean he can experiment and try out all the players in the squad to see what fits. Naturally, 3 losses in a row would be enough to make most hit the panic button. But I would happily give him that if it meant we turned out a better team for it.

Lennon certainly wouldn't have beaten Barca and Spartak away in his first season, so we can't expect this guy to.

Great post. Perfectly sums it up for me. A new manager always needs time. Of course some fans will always hit the panic button but he needs at least one season to get his team bedded in.

Any Euro success for me is a bonus. Having said that of course I want us to get there. I'm certainly not writing it off this year. :celt_2: :shamrock:

No, your version is all speculation. Mine just involves not assuming Lawwell is lying. My version doesn't involve all sorts of assumptions about the motivations and intentions of the people involved that we can't possibly know, yours does.

Look at this yet again, these are the facts:

    1)Keane was a candidate
2)Lawwell publicly claimed that there was no preferred candidate and that at that early stage there were a number of candidates going through the process.
    3) Keane later asked to withdraw from the process.

Now my version involves just one extra, very plausible step: to assume that, since nothing Lawwell claimed is contradicted by the evidence and he has no known history of outright lying to the supporters and shareholders, there is currently no reason to doubt what he said. That's it. That's my only bit of speculation and it is quite a probable bit that.

Yours, on the other hand, involves:

    1) reading between the lines of what Larsson and Keane said and inferring from that that they were probably offered the job without any hard evidence

    2) deciding that Lawwell is outright lying about the process the board is using and second guessing that their actual process involves offering it to candidates in a serial fashion. This even though our board has no history of such incompetence.

    3) speculation about Keane turning us down

    4) speculation about the hidden motivations of the board in carrying out their actions

My story simply works on the common sense principle of taking people at face value unless the people involved have a history of lying or any evidence turns up to contradict their claims; yours is a whole soap opera involving events and intentions that you can't possibly know.

Having said all that (which I stand by), I need to be fair to you and acknowledge that at least your theory is a genuine possibility (albeit a rather convoluted one for which there is currently little to no evidence). Some of the theories on here are downright ridiculous and it was only when searching for your quotes I realised it wasn't you who came out with the whole Roy Keane as a smokescreen so no one gazumps us with Deila idea.

Most of Deila's troops, though, are youngsters, and none better than Stefan Johansen -- a technically supreme midfield dynamo who was promoted to Norway's first team from the Under-21s this year.
