You have to question why Mowbray wasn't sacked then eh.

His success came when he was Asst - Head Coach - at Chelsea & Liverpool. Stats would suggest he didn't do it as a No.1. In fact pretty poor record as No.1.

I dont get it, all the candidates mentioned have failed, keane, coyle and clarke, these names seem to get mentioned for jobs all the time, its like a football merrygoround. Really should be looking for up and coming managers who are hungry, the likes of Rosler, Eddie Howe, jackie McNamara and the must be countless in europe worth looking at.

If Laudrup won't take it I say * it, give it to McNamara and Donnelly. I would take them over any other name left on the list.

Getting West Brom to their highest top flight finish since 1981, and finishing with their record points total. That isn't all that bad in my opinion.

Defo going to be Owen Coyle I reckon :54: Steve Clarke doesn't excite me either yesterday I was just happy Keane had ruled himself out so I was up for his appointment looking back though he didn't do well with WBA last season

I fancy Clarke to do a reasonable job. He's not the type of character to fill you with excitement though. It depends what you want; an attack minded, passing/pressing type continental manager who might play pretty football and tears up the domestic scene but is undone when the going gets tough against better opponents OR one like Clarke who will, with our squads limitations probably stand a better chance of guiding us through to the group stages and puts some points on the board when we get there. The board will be thinking the latter as its less of a risk and I can't criticise them for that tbh even if I would fancy someone a bit more adventurous.

Clarke has been my first choice for quite a while now. Arguably being a good coach is the most important attribute for a potential Celtic manager at the moment.

Given our current model, it's not as important (though it would certainly be a bonus) for him to be able to spot a player and get good value in the transfer market, Park and Lawwell already take care of much of that side of things. Not that Clarke won't have an input, of course he will; but Park will find good players who fit our model even if Clarke can't and Lawwell will not pay over the odds for anyone. If anything, I think we didn't utilise Lenny's ability to spot an underrated player enough when he was manager!

It is, however, absolutely essential that the new man be a good coach, as our entire model consists of improving players and then selling them on for a profit. Even his detractors don't dispute that Clarke is one of the best coaches in the business. In terms of setting his teams up tactically, the jury is still out on Clarke; but none of the other realistic targets (Coyle, Mackay, McNamara) are known as tactical geniuses, are they?

So although I can respect people wanting Moyes or Laudrup (I can't see them agreeing to come, personally), I honestly can't imagine why people would rather have Coyle, Mackay, McNamara, etc ahead of Clarke. I just don't see an argument there.

Did West Brom not finish 8th in his first season? That to me is pretty good cause West Brom are a * club.

Anybody reckon we are one of the "tempting offers" Moyes has had since Utd?

I agree with you about his coaching qualities (and how important it is to our requirements) as it seems to be the overriding theme from most of his contemporaries comments on him. His pragmatic attitude/style of football would probably stand us in better stead in Europe as well with our squads limitations. Would still like to see someone a bit more adventurous but would not be adverse to Clarke for the above reasons and couldn't criticise the board for going down this route. In saying that every 'favourite' has fallen out of the running so we'll see if there is any truth in this one.
