I think it is reasonable to suggest that Celtic will be meeting with a number of applicants before deciding on a new manager. I am pretty sure that a new manager will be confirmed before the World Cup starts. Personally I would want Henrik Larsson with Steve Clarke as his assistant/mentor. The league title is almost guaranteed for Celtic next season so the measure of success will be performances in Europe. I think appointing Larsson and Clarke could be a good combination. The other name I have heard that interests me is Oscar Garcia, I like his football philosophy and I would like to see Celtic play this way.

How open is the manager search normally when it comes to European football teams? I think during previous searches I didn't pay much attention. It's funny how different American sports are, from what I remember, teams will list out all the candidates that they are interviewing and then decide or ask back for another interview.

Wow! That level of transparency is unheard of in the UK. Your way is much better IMO.

Celtic keen to have Michael Laudrup as new boss

MICHAEL LAUDRUP has been sounded out about taking over from Neil Lennon at Celtic.

And if the former Swansea manager and brother of former Rangers star Brian gets the job, he would take Morten Wieghorst with him as No 2.
Celtic have a long list of candidates including Owen Coyle, David Moyes and Malky Mackay, but Laudrup’s philosophy of attacking football with flair appeals to the club’s hierarchy.
Laudrup, 49, has managed Brondby, Getafe, Spartak Moscow and Mallorca as well as Swansea, who he led to a historic League Cup triumph in his first season.
Wieghorst was a popular player at Celtic. He coached Nordsjaelland and Denmark’s Under-21s before teaming up with Laudrup in Wales, but they were sacked in February.
However, Laudrup is reported to have been offered the manager’s job at Grenada and is also in the frame to take over at Southampton following Mauricio Pochettino’s appointment at Tottenham yesterday.
Neil Lennon is also being linked with a quickfire return to football as boss at St Mary’s after quitting Celtic last week.
The Northern Irishman is one of a host of managers in contention to succeed Pochettino at the Premier League club.
The bookies’ favourite is recently-departed Basle boss Murat Yakin, who is well-known to the club’s Swiss owners.

Wigan boss Uwe Rosler is emerging as a candidate for the Celtic manager's job.

The Scottish champions are looking for a new boss following Neil Lennon's departure last week.

And Sportsmail understands Rosler has been identified as a potential successor to Lennon at Celtic Park.

Potential: Uwe Rosler has impressed since taking over at Wigan and leading them into the Championship play-offs

The former Manchester City forward's work in England, firstly with Brentford and now Wigan has been admired by Hoops chiefs.
Whether Rosler would consider a move north of the border, particularly with the Latics expected to be among the Championship promotion favourites next season, remains to be seen.

But he features on a shortlist that also features Owen Coyle and Malky Mackay.

Michael Laudrup joins Malky Mackay, Owen Coyle, Oscar Garcia and Henrik Larsson on Celtic shortlist

    • The former Swansea boss joins the shortlist to replace Neil Lennon
    • The Great Dane won the Capital One Cup with Swansea before leaving Wales in February
    • Former Bhoy Morten Wieghorst was Laudrup's No 2 at Swansea

Former Swansea City boss Michael Laudrup is the latest name to enter the frame as Celtic hunt for a new manager.

Sources in Denmark claim that contact has been made with Laudrup’s representatives to assess his willingness to talk.

He was assisted at the Barclays Premier League side by former Celtic midfielder Morten Wieghorst, who could form part of a potential coaching team at Parkhead.

Double act: Will Michael Laudrup (left) be united with Morten Wieghorst at Celtic?

It’s believed the Scottish champions have been taking informal soundings from a number of potential candidates as they try and refine their options following Neil Lennon’s departure.

Malky Mackay, Owen Coyle, Oscar Garcia, Henrik Larsson, Steve Clarke and Wigan boss Uwe Rosler are among the other names to have been linked with the club, with Laudrup now adding an intriguing possibility to the list.

The 49-year-old is well versed about life in Glasgow through younger brother Brian, who achieved legendary status during his playing days with Rangers.

Laudrup guided Swansea to the League Cup during his time in charge - with a 5-0 victory over Bradford City at Wembley in 2013 - but was sacked in February of this year with his team sitting 12th in the Barclays Premier League.

He reached a settlement with the Welsh club over his dismissal earlier this week.

Winning pedigree: Laudrup won the Capital One Cup with Swansea in 2013

Spanish club Granada already want him as their new manager but the one-time Barcelona and Real Madrid forward has yet to commit to the struggling La Liga outfit as he assesses his options.

It remains to be seen whether Celtic will now enter into negotiations with Laudrup or first opt for another candidate.

Capped 104 times by Denmark in a glittering playing career that also included a spell at Juventus, Laudrup is known for favouring an attacking brand of football.

He began his management career with Brondby, enjoying league and cup success in his homeland before joining Getafe.

Laudrup steered them to a Copa Del Rey final and a decent UEFA Cup run, with less successful stints at Spartak Moscow and Real Mallorca preceding his arrival at Swansea.

The Dane was replaced at the Liberty Stadium by caretaker boss Gary Monk, before Monk was appointed on a permanent basis earlier this month.
