This. Problem I see is, when we had the likes of Douglas we had big * like Bobo, Mjallby, Varga playing in front of him. * keeper, great defence.
With Boruc, opposite situation. World class keeper, very average defence.
Since Boruc left we've had an average, raw keeper with * poor defence.
If we have a decent keeper we need to balance that with a good defence which we don't have.

I posted a stat in the Forster thread.

Last season in 44 games Forster was called upon to make 98 saves.
This season in 21 games he has needed to make 73.

Shows you the massive problems in defence this season compared to last. Where everyone to a man thought Big Forster was solid.

Shocking stats really. And mind last season we were conceding daft goals until after new year where we defended from midfield rather than the cb's. Was still dodgy defence but a real team effort in defending.
Now we just need more assured defenders.
All I want for Christmas is 2 cb's:41:(and obviously a pumping of the manks)

    its a hard one

we tend to judge keeper's in various ways.

if he's a good keeper and has a bad defence in front of him, dont you think he should step up to the mark and prove he's a good keeper? i know FF has made a few good saves in his spell ,these saves should be bread and butter to him, everyime you watch celtic fight for 3 points ,you are gauranteed that the opposition's keeper will make some world class saves

or if there's a great defence the keeper does not have much to do and we will not see his true weakness

you can look at it either way Artur was world class and got caught out day dreaming a good few times

all in all, if our defence was great, most would be happy with an average keeper in goal but sadly our defence is poor, hopefully this is on the agenda to be rectified soon

    throw a question out here.

Mc Greggor in goals for celtic right now, would he be the same keeper for us as he is for the darkside?

I think Fraser is a decent keeper, behind one of the worst defences I've seen in Scottish Football. In every defeat this season I think Fraser has pulled off some very good stops, however our moronic defence allows him to be attacked to often.

Fraser has his weaknesses but he is young and he has great potential, he already holds the clean sheet record in 2 leagues at the age of 22. That goes to show he does have something there. Saves like his one against Jelavic last season and a couple of fantastic stops he has made this season shows how good he is I think.

Even against Dunfermline he made a very important, low down, save that would have had usin trouble.

The defence sorted needs to be priority and have our midfield protecting them again. You will see the full team shine then, Forster has the potential to be class and I don't want us to wreck that for him do to shoddy defending and abuse off of fans.

He needs to work on certain areas of his game but in general his shot stopping and positioning is spot on and he has something that many good goalkeepers have came to Celtic and not managed to gain, concentration.

    I would say Jonathan Gould.

Rab Douglas let us down too many times in big games and David Marshall only played 30 odd times so the sample size is too small to judge him properly.

Definitely not, McGregor's main weakness is when to come off his line and his biggest asset is shotstopping. He has a big defence that lies deep infront of him, and that allows him to just purely concentrate on saves.

With our defence he would be called off his line more often and you would see stuff like what Samaras done to him last year happening to often, even Manuel Pascalis goal on the weekend had McGregor off his line in no mans land.

Add on top of that the amount of mistakes he actually makes for them, he wouldn't get such an easy ride off of the press or the fans and that would sap confidence.

He's a great shotstopper, prone to dropping a clanger every now and then but his dominance of his area and judgement at when to leave his line is terrible.

Rab Douglas for me. Got a right hard time off the fans but little credit for his great performances.

    Just found this again.

THIS IS NOT A GIRFUY BUMP

Just thought; it's amazing how perception can change in a year. I like looking at things like this and just thinking; players going through a wee slump of form; they may deserve a bit of a break.

    What a bizarre poll result.

I guarantee Forster had a bad game the particular week of the poll, such is the fickleness of the young forum member.

It was round about time of us going 15 points down to Rangers; people were giving him a very hard time.

I just love how he's turned it around in the eyes of the support. He's been viewed by many as maybe being better than Artur now. Going through this thread, it's something many (including myself) thought was an impossibility.

Personally speaking, I didn't even take FF into consideration at the time. He's had an amazing year, though, so warrants consideration as our best GK in decades.
