They gave him 16 games......that isn't long enough to judge . Arteta would have been out of a job if his first few months were assessed like that. * it , Ange would have been sacked for losing 3 of the first 5 in his first season.

Just trying to work this out from a prioritizing the Champions League angle- perhaps the thinking is this guy has European experience at the highest level admittedly as a number 2?

But there's absolutely nothing to back it up. I can't believe we want to hire someone just because he works with Pep and might be another Arteta. The club is in the healthiest position it has been and we are going to risk it all. I'm absolutely scunnered. Get them to *

What on earth has Atreta got to do with this? I'm assuming it's because he was an assistant to Pep? Christ that's a seriously tenous reason for putting any kind of faith into one of Pep's other coaches. And Arteta presided over a spectacular capitulation so I'd be wary about describing him as successful in any event.

This is real * hour stuff. But entirely on brand nonetheless

Maresca doesn’t strike me as the man that will lead the Team into the Last 16

We say that but Parma would have spent more than anyone else in that division

Might sound harsh, but he'd be slagged if his name was Kennedy. First managerial job and he failed. He has no right to be rated highly. The only way he should come in is if he accepts being an assistant manager to some big name.

In fairness, they had also just been relegated with a bunch of players who had been bought for mega bucks and were then playing in the second tier of Italian football. The vibe around the place couldn't have been great, regardless.

Hopefully the board are doing their due diligence here and have cast their net wider than the usual. Names we're seeing chucked about were uninspiring in 2021, even more so now.

We really only need someone to come in for a season then we can re-hire Ange.

We don't have 16 games to start * around with a rookie whose only previous managerial job ended in disgrace.

We are in a considerably stronger position now than in 2021. There's absolutely no way we should be reduced to taking these types of punts.

    Ridiculous it's even being suggested.

You would hope the board would be trying to leverage our relatively strong position when appointing the next manager.

Maresca seems like a needlessly risky appointment. He may very well be a great coach, and he may even one day be a great manager, however his only managerial stint to date was a complete failure. Given where we are at the moment, that’s not the sort of gamble we need to take.
