Fair points. I think it's a focused BR that turns up personally. If he's thinking of numero uno, then he needs to do well and that means winning the league at a minimum. To be noticed for bigger jobs again down south, he'll need that and progression in Europe, be it out the group stages or a run to the business end of EL.

He's not daft either. He knows the celtic fans and their feeling overall and the best way to overcome that is winning and in style. I also think he'll have the buy in from the players as well. Only really Calmac there from before and Forrest and he's on decent terms with them.

It's the behind the scenes stuff that I'm concerned about. His ego and PL ego. I know this shouldn't be an issue as PL has moved upstairs in a non executive role, but his son could still do his bidding for him. Probably not as I'm sure Lawell jnr is his own man. I'm sure BR will have sought assurances likewise DD from BR. Transfer wise, things seem to be better currently as well. BR will need to accept how things are done with Nicholson now. Hopefully that analysis room is still going ahead as well.

That's if he gets appointed. He could do a u-turn and decide to wait for another EPL job. Can't see the board being played again Howe-style either.

Apparently the process has progressed significantly. We’ve interviewed multiple candidates and it’s been narrowed right down. Maresca has options and we’re not keen on the fact that he left the door open. The club hope it’s done this week.

I really appreciate this thoughtful reply. You brought up a few good points that I hadn't thought of.

Would it be fair to assume if it gets done this week then it will be Rodgers ? :67:

So it’s not necessarily Rodgers as many are saying?

Bit of a weird attitude to not be happy about Maresca keeping his options open when we're literally looking at multiple candidates.

    Cheers bud.

Meant to add, if BR does well, then Celtic are doing well. That's what matters.

The club should be looking at DoF going ahead. Ensures continuity overall. But that's for another thread another time.

I really don't want Brendan Rodgers back as a manager after bailing out the last time . Also his playing of our emotions when he chose to wax lyrical about his love for the club . Dropping wee stories about Danny McGrain being permitted to stay for as long as he wanted . He was playing us like a fiddle . And his timing too , mid season departure down South . It all sticks in my craw . Plenty untarnished candidates would jump at the Celtic job .

Yes because he has shown something Rodgers hasn't for me, an ability to spot a player. I fully expect if we get Rodgers we will win the league next season, he is a good coach after all and I expect one good season from him with the players we have. My concern is what happens after. I would anticipate a lot of players will be moving on at the end of next season, if not before, and it's the thought of a rebuild under Rodgers at that point that gives me the absolute fear. Anyone that was desperate to sign Jack Hendry should be automatically barred from ever being allowed to sign a player again in the future.

Yeah as a championship club now they might be looking for a new manager.

If BR does come back we should be looking into his successor too as we know it goes to * after a few years

Loved Brendan when he was here. Like most of us felt so much anger with the manner he left and truthfully it does leave a bad taste, however, if he comes back and builds on this success I am perfectly willing to forgive him.

We know the issues he has with the board previously. I seem to recall him wanting castagne and mcginn and he ended up with mulumbu and gutman (who couldn't even be played if memory serves me right). You got to assume that there have been assurances of more backing. Brendan is a great coach, no doubt about it but his transfer dealing can and have been concerning and that's my only concern. One of our condition must be a big fat no to Congleton coming back.

The most important thing is to appoint someone that gives us the highest chance of continued success and for me, maybe Knutzen and the manager from Spain(forget his name) aside, Brendan is the best appointment.

Because DD actually does want what is best for Celtic and Rodgers is the best manager available within our reach.

If fans genuinley wanted the same this wouldn't even be a debate. There is no question BR is the best available to us, that should be all that matters.

this comes back to what I said previously give Rodgers a 3 year deal and put the structure in place DOF and such like for succession planning.

And a 3 deal covers compensation if he leaves or say to him buy in for 3 years or don’t come
