Is Maresca at the City game? Haven't seen him.

I understand the want for Rodgers over the rest due to the success he had, my issue with him (other than the way he left) is his recruitment was bang average at best with a lot of howlers in there. Lee Congleton was a big part of the problem but BR said he had the final say on who he wanted. He then took Congleton to Leicester with him. Would he try and bring him back? Fk knows.. John Dahl Thommason is who I'd be going for or Knutson ..

Brendan Rodgers hasn’t ruled out returning to Celtic as their new boss.

The Northern Irishman is still a leading contender to replace Ange Postecoglou who left for Spurs last week. And while the club are weighing up several managerial targets, Parkhead majority shareholder Dermot Desmond is a huge admirer of Rodgers after his trophy-laden first spell as Hoops gaffer. The 50-year-old left Leicester in April and had planned to take a lengthy break before returning to a Premier League club or job abroad.

Despite distancing himself from reports of potentially replacing Postecoglou, Record Sport understands he won’t rule anything out. It comes after German boss Daniel Farke emerged as a shock contender. The 46-year-old has recently left Borussia Monchengladbach and previously spent four years in England with Norwich City, winning the Canaries promotion to the Premier League. He’s currently a free agent and Sky Germany claim he has already held initial talks about a move to Parkhead.

But two of the leading contenders for the job appear to have dropped out of the race. David Moyes was an early favourite for the post but after securing the Europa Conference League trophy in Prague, he’ll be staying at West Ham next season. And former Chelsea coach Graham Potter – who was approached by Celtic – feels his next club will be in the Premier League.

Manchester City assistant boss Enzo Maresca remains a live target. Talks with him were delayed until after the Champions League Final against Inter Milan. Bodo Glimt gaffer Kjetil Knutsen and Club Brugge assistant Rik de Mil are also on the club’s radar.

I'm quite chill about this. I quite like that Knutsen guy but really I'm basing that on literally two matches I've seen his team play that impressed me and some comments from folk in here. I know nothing else about him. :giggle1: The only person on the list I know FOR SURE is a good coach is Rodgers and even with him, I don't know what his attitude will be: he's an excellent coach when he himself is up for it; but he seems to have a tendency to lose interest after a while. I'd barely heard of Maresca (vague memories of his name last time round) and never heard of Iraola at all (although oddly enough I have stayed a few weeks in Vallecas (this was almost 10 years ago) and seem to remember that Rayo Vallecano had (have?) a bit in common with us culturally, so that could be a cool link); but then I'd never heard of Ange either.
There's a lot riding on getting this right. In years to come, we'll look back on this as the moment we took a big step up or as yet another moment we wasted a massive opportunity. Anyway, I'm going to try not to worry about a decision that we can't really affect.

If it's one of rodgers, knutsen or iraola I think we'll be good.
Even maresca has his upsides as we know he's a top coach and you would imagine we would use his city links to get some real top quality up and coming players.

Pep only managed the Barca B team before taking the Barca job.

Don’t let CV’s fool you and that goes both ways.

Maresca might be a good manager, we won’t know but I don’t see what he has done to deserve even an interview. John Kennedy deserves the job more than him, and I think that would be horrible.

Rodger’s becomes more appealing if that’s the alternative choice. It should really be someone like Knutson, Iraola, McKenna, someone who has experience at least and tries to play positive football.

It just makes me hate the board, we have no continuity plan. We should hire a dof who wants to be here and wants attacking, positive football, then we can always have a plan to replace at all times with minimal disruption.

Ange hasn't even been gone a week and the Celtic board have already interviewed most of their candidates. Calm down

Knutsen would be the most seamless transition as his style at Bode/Glimt is similar and perhaps a bit more balanced especially defensively. We should be going all out for him , he's worked even more miracles on a lower budget than Ange.

The 5 million they got for Ang pays the next manager wage so push the boat out and get a quality manager in as we must now and try to progress in Europe.

No but Maresca won the league with Man City B so I fail to see your point?

His first real managerial job ended with being being sacked after a handful of games and over £30m spent.

Guardiola’s first managerial spell is not comparable.
