Personally I would say the Scandinavian market is where Celtic should really be making the biggest focus in terms of bringing in foreign talent. Not because our manager is from Norway but simply because I think there is good talent there and the players can fit in and settle in well at Celtic on and off the field much easier then players from most other locations.

We should be scouring every affordable market and should be fully aware of all prospects given our resources. It shouldn't matter where they come from if the price is right and the quality is there... trouble is we are not doing this properly for some reason. The scouting has been lazy and inconsistent for years which is strange because with this signing policy we are placing so much importance on this area.

I'm really surprised we haven't gone down that route. Yeah I agree on Austria, they've some ridiculous talent coming through, Switzerland also.

The Belgian and Scandinavian markets are the two we should be working in the most.

Players tend to cost quite a bit from Belgium though, probably not really that many bargains there, French 2nd tier is decent as a lot of good players have come from there and they are generally quite cheap.

Wish we picked up Charlie Austin when he was at Poole Town, he would have been a goal machine for us and we would have got him for pennies he is now out our price range.

100% this! I couldn't give a * which market our players come from, but we're 23rd on the league rankings so everything from about 15th to 30th should be getting scoured, and everything from 15th to 10th should be getting the odd eye cast over it - of course provided these countries have consistently been at that level. On top of that the Deila plan of forming connections with the top 10 leagues teams with huge youth setups in order to farm out loans/steal cheap talent.

I must say i was disheartened to hear suggestions that weve only got about a dozen scouts and use outsourced groups to find talent. Hope that's bullshit!

Not at all the terrible call that nany people are going to think when they read this. But i reckon it's a market where speed of business is required, which is most certainly not the current celtic way

Scottish Premiership and the back papers of the rags/ sports scene for who's the next big thing in Scottish football.

Armstrong and GMS were hype signings. Sure there's better elsewhere for that money, particularly Armstrong.

If we really have just a dozen scouts like mentioned earlier in the thread, then I'm not sure if that's enough to scout even one country besides Scotland properly.

I think our market should be mainly people who don't require work permits, mainly EU and some people from Commonwealth. Probably more Northern-ish countries, Scandinavia, Poland and East Europe.

Even small non-football countries like Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia have a few quality players in each generation that go on to play for EPL, Seria A, etc teams, the question is who finds them first.

It doesn't matter where we get the players. Wanyama, Ki, Hooper etc...they all came from different continents.

    Spot on.

Personally thought signing those two was a good experiment considering we were getting criticised by the media for not having enough Scottish talent.

The rags were also ranting and raving about how good these boys were and how much they would improve our team.....they've yet to be proved right.
