If he is as good as 2011/2012, then anywhere. He was * awesome especially in the last few months of that season.

If he plays like last year again though i'll personally force Lennon to sell him.

Massive credit to mulgrew how he came back to a club like us after being let go and thriving,1 of the first names on the team sheet an player of the year...

Was always going to be hard last season to replicate the form of the year before and he did play in a number of different positions which I admit I didn't like for the most part, still gives it his everything and can't be knocked for that...

This season I see mulgrew as a rotational centre back in a 2 and used in a 3 -5-2 also with Wilson and van dijk at times,he's never a midfielder,to panicky and wants too much time on the ball which you don't get in midfield and too slow at left back...

I don't think either that mulgrew will be the fussy * type at being told he's not a certain starter all the time..

Saying this his deliveries are such a dangerous weapon that Lennon again might accommodate him in Europe

If he sets up the majority of our goals in Europe getting us through to the last 16, you wouldn't be happy? Finishing the season as our second highest assister with 9 goals?

    Jesus *, some people man.

    Nice problem to have..

If we play three CB's and 2 wingbacks then we have plenty of options

All these guys can play CB:

    Wilson
    Ambrose
    Van Dijk
    Mulgrew
    Lustig

Plus Lustig and Mulgrew can fill in at right and left wingback for Matthews and Izzy repsectively...

Between having a full slate of games and injuries, they will all get a decent amount of games if they earn it..

Looks a quality player for his age

Perfect situation for Marcus Fraser to learn and not be rushed in.

We're in a lot better situation than a few years back when we had Josh Thompson starting a string of games at CB because of lack of depth :31:

Van Dijk will need to earn his place. Mulgrews best position is CB and him together with Wilson is by far our best defence. That's where I would play him. Wouldn`t mind seeing the 3 at the back formation though

He'll play here, there and everywhere. Dependable player wherever he is but like someone earlier pointed out I think Lennon might play 3 at the back and he'll be a key part of that.

I would use him in rotation.

I really like Charlie, and I know he delivered a lot of good corners in the CL last year, but in open play I thought he looked hopelessly out of his depth. He is a good SPL player but if we are aiming to improve as a team in Europe, which we should be, then Mulgrew wouldn't be one of the building blocks for that IMO.

The problem is he is really good in a lot of positions, but not the best in any of them.

I still want him at centre back.

Wasn't surprised to see his form dip last year (said it would, in fact), however he still remains a key asset of the team. A back three would suit him well, as he'd have the cover, when he brings the ball forward. Would be under less pressure when the opposition is running at him, as well, which is where he struggles in the big games.

    Nowhere in all honesty.

Hopefully he isn't a starter next season, we should and can do better.

Really? I don't see how that accusation could be made about any of his performances. I thought he was very good in possession in all of the games. He played a couple of great through balls against Spartak if I remember correctly. Statistically he was one of the best players in the CL last season - that's not all down to set pieces. He certainly wouldn't be that high up in the Opta rankings if he was 'hopelessly out of his depth.'

He'll play wherever he is required or his attributes are needed in a certain position in the exact same way he has since day one.

Don't see what this season changes for him? It's as you were.

How is it complete nonsense? He should be a backup player.

Think about it. Our two central defenders will be Van Dijk and Wilson. Izaguirre will be left back, unless we sign another. Mulgrew shouldn't be in midfield as he doesn't add much and Lennon has said he wants a left sided player. Centre mids will most likely be Ledley and Brown or a replacement for Wanyama.

So how is it nonsense? He doesn't fit in anywhere.
