I can't remember him complaining about not having money to spend , he would have known when he took the job that players were going to be sold and cheap replacements would have to be brought in..
I got the feeling the whole deal with him being made out publicly as a bit of a joke (even if these stories weren't true - flexing his muscles to the players , his training methods being laughed at , expecting them to live a teetotal life) got to him in the end because he isn't ruthless enough..
Plus Im sure at the time when he quit he was pinning his hopes on getting the Fulham job..

I liked him as a player at Parkhead but don't forget he walked out on the club (Bosman , no money coming back in) , even if it wasn't a nice time to be around Parkhead..

He's cut an impressive figure this season not only with his team on the park but dealing with the tragic events off it.

But while he may be one for the future, he hasn't quite done enough in the game to merit being our next manager. I reckon it will take a more high profile appointment to energize and more importantly unite the support behind any new man.

I'm thinking Moyes, Hiddink or Bilic?

is cv is very up and down is it not?

He seems a decent guy, but there is something i don't like about him, maybe something to do with Adam Virgo.

He wouldn't be my choice of manager at this time, however, if he was appointed, i'd back him, it would be a interesting appointment, but a bit of a gamble.

Exactly my point. Most fans are willing to back a new man, but their patience is usually limited by how much they trust his ability.

If McGhee became manager then ran into difficulty, all the stuff aimed at Strachan about his CV and achievements in the game (or lack of) would be aimed at him as well.

We would need a big name to excite the support. I've never known the fans to be so divided over a manager as they have been.

I would start watching shinty if that pudding got near the job. Keane is too early but McCarthy is too *. How about Eddie the eagle?

you really want to give him MORE of our money? You'd be better off writing the name of every registered professional footballer from the top 2 divisions of every european league on pieces of paper, throwing all the pieces in a hat and getting an inbred monkey to pull out 4 names. You'd have a higher success rate of quality signings than Strachan would give you....and the monkey would motivate them better & be less irritating in interviews as well.

John Collins should never be mentioned in the same sentence as manager of Celtic.

Then I could cope with that. The guy is a self obsessed * who ruined a great dressing room spirit in a short time at Hibs.

Your wantin a good experienced manager with a good track record not boys who have been managing for a couple of years or so, a think hughes has the atributes to be a decent manager but so far he has done very little in the management game. Celtic should be going in for bigger names than hughes and collins.

I think people need to start getting real, a foreign manager woould be here for the short term and thats no good for the club, e.g., Hiddink, etc. We need the next manager to stay for at least 5 years, we can't afford to chop and change with foreign managers every season it would set us back years.

I don't like Collins he ruined a gr8 wee team Tony Mowbray built by being an *, Hibs played much better football under Mowbray.

I think realistically we should go for Tony Mowbray, Craig Levein or John Hughes. I like Tony Mowbray and think he would be an ideal candidate for the job and I think he will get to the top no matter what, but also wouldn't mind John Hughes or Levein. These guys havn't worked at a club the size of Celtic before but that doesn't mean anything WGS hadn't either and he won us the league twice, but whatever we do we need to get a manager with a positive playing style and who can perform well in interviews and create a gr8 team spirit.

What about George Burley he had hearts playing well! But he has said he wasn't going to walk out on Scotland like the others before him.

Moyes would be a superb signing but don't think he would go for it as hes doing so well at Everton.

i think Mark McGhee is a very good manager but hes not got enough expierence for celtic, hes only really started managing id like to see him as a candidate for the job in the next 5 years though.

personally id go for Mark Hughes or Gus Hiddink

Sorry m8 but Mark McGhee has been a football manager since 1991 when he got his first job as Reading manager so hes far from just starting out. I quite like the guy but there are better alternatives, Tony Mowbray for me, we've no chance of Hiddink.

Everyone is talking about sacking GS but some are suggesting McGhee, Levein, Hughes & Mowbray as his replacement? Their CV's are laughable in comparison to GS's but they are the best replacements? Get your heads checked!

Granted Moyes was mentioned but as said top class managers are under contract.

Why not approach Hiddink? Has he got anything arranged for after Euro 2008?

He strikes me as the type of guy who relishes a challenge and isn't as hung up about having to manage in one of the big leagues.
