My gran and grandad on my Dad's side are Irish, my dad is Irish - i have been born and raised in Scotland with the exception of family holidays and as such i am Scottish.

Technically, they work it all out from your grandparents, so i would be half Scottish, half Irish, but for me it should all depend on where you were born, and where you have spent the majority of your life - especially your early years.

I have always been, am and always WILL be proud of my Irish roots, as it's part of my family heritage and of who i am as well...but i would never describe myself as Irish-Scottish. Just sounds a bit strange to me in all honesty.

to me your nationality is where you were born, i no some scottish people who say there irish and have never been to ireland, its only 100 miles away, i find that a bit strange.. what if someone pregnant went on holiday to spain(i no there not allowed to fly), had a premature baby in spain, then returned to live in lets say ireland! is the kid spanish then? so i just contradicted myself there.....

there live many foreigners here and although most of them were born here they don't feel swiss at all. they love and adore the country of their parent(s).

I'd say the way you feel in your heart is more important rather than where you were born.

My Grandad and Dad are both Irish but I was born in Scotland and all my Mums side of the family are Scottish so I class myself Scottish but I am extremely proud of having Irish blood in me.

I'm Scottish. I have Irish roots from both sides of my family but have never felt any affinity with Ireland to be honest.

I'm Scottish and my parents are Scottish and my Grandparents are Scottish.
It's too far back in my family tree to even consider myself Irish in any way.

Im not very happy reading this mate, nothing against you.
Im from Dundalk in Ireland(Most will have heard of it for obvious reasons) but for those who dont, its 2miles the south side of the border.
There is no maternaty ward in Dundalk but one in Drogheda in the South 18miles away and one in Newry in the North 5miles away.

I was born in Newry as the hospital was closer than Drogheda, So your telling me
I SHOULD CALL MYSELF NORTHERN IRISH BECAUSE I WAS BORN THERE, will i *, Id rather * Barry Ferguson than call myself Northern Irish.

    Im Irish through and through.

Sorry about the rant just needed get it off my chest

Your nationality is based upon where you were born. Your heritage is based upon your parents blood lines
I am Scottish ..my kids born in england .. they are English with Scottish blood

What does your passport say .... that is your nationality

Does it really matter where you were born.. you are who you are .. and people should like you for that

    EDIT
Post also directed to mickdlk who i missed his post

This is how it feels to be Celtic
I don't think it matters what is on your passport at all. I have a British passport, but I don't feel British. I feel Scottish cos I was born there. My ancestry is Irish, but I don't feel Irish. I've lived in Malta for 11 years and am entitle to a Maltese passport, but if I get a Maltese passport (Which I won't) it won't make me Maltese.
