Yesterday, I was in a village where 100cm of snow can fall within 24 hours. I'm Japanese, and Japan has many world class snowfall regions. It's because nearly 70% of Japanese land is mountains and Japan is being surrounded by the sea. I mean, warm sea water keeps evaporating to make very thick clouds and they hit mountains to make huge snowfall here. Recently, Japanese ski resorts are getting popular with international tourists due to the frequent heavy snow. I'm a football fan and I like Celtic. So, I tend to talk about Celtic with tourists from UK. However, I sometimes worry "Ah, this Scottish guy might be Rangers's fan?":nonono:

I remember reading somewhere that some of the ski resorts don't open until nearly summer because the snow falls so heavy they simply cannot get up to it until then :56: always fancied Japan for skiing. Will do it one day.

Welcome! I’m following from down in Australia and it’s 31 degrees Celsius today, total bluebird day. I’m heading up to Niseko next month for a week of snowboarding. Cracking place, hope it keeps dumping as it looks like they had a funky week. Hard to beat a day’s snowboarding followed by a visit to the onsen and then finally a ramen washed down with a Sapporo :50:

I might have talked with you in that my family have a small ski related business and I have seen quite many Australian tourists in Japanese ski resorts. I think I have talked with more than 1,000 Australian tourists in Japanese ski resorts and you might be one of them!. I hope you'll have great ski holidays in Japan;)

Yes us Aussies have “discovered” the joy of Japanese snow. I’ll keep my eye out for the Celtic supporting lad in the snow, if you get talking to me about Celtic/Hatate/Kyogo/Maeda you won’t be able to shut me up :50:

I'm kind of a Japanese ski resort specialist. Some Japanese ski resorts are closed in mid winter because the roads are closed due to too much of snowfall. However, ski resort opening in summer, then it must be Gassan ski resort. In winter, the snowdepth of roads to the ski resort can be 7 meters and the snowdepth can reach 10m or more on the ski slopes. Hence, roads are closed and the ski resort is also closed during winter.

These road signs in the region can be completely buried in snow in winter.

This video is not Gassan ski resort but a ski resort which is closed during mid winter =January and February. The video was filmed in Decemer just before it got closed due to way too much of snow. January and February are more snowy usually:eek:

Never experienced heat like a Canadian summer! * insane. Mosquitos at night are horrific, got all my Canadian family saying it's not bad, meanwhile me and the wife get eaten to * by them hahaha

The best part of Canadas Wonderland was finding out there was a swimming pool, sat there and let the rest go on the rides.

*And sorry to hear about the forest fires, I know how rough they get. Hope you and the rest of the Canadians stay safe.
