from an article on Jehovah's Witness persecution in * Germany:

Because Jehovah's Witnesses would not give allegiance to the * party, and refused to serve in the military, they were detained, put in concentration camps, or imprisoned during the Holocaust. Unlike Jews, homosexuals and Gypsies who were persecuted for racial, political and social reasons, Jehovah's Witnesses were persecuted on religious ideological grounds.

Shall we agree to disagree ? :50:

religion is a personal thing ,you either believe ,or you dont ,but some people on here ,seem to think that slagging someones elses beliefs that is ok by them ,personally i dont care if your athiest ,muslim ,etc ,but i am a catholic ,and a lot of the slagging is aimed at my religion ,all people who have faith in whatever * they pray to ,should never be insulted by someone who doesnt believe ,you could have just said i am an athiest and left it at that ,why all the slagging

I hate the phrase anti-semitism, if one dont agree with all israeli policies or what a jew has to say they are classed as an anti semite or one of hitlers children. I think the phrase should be outlawed

Stopped going to church (Catholic) at 10, when a girl at Sunday school was rewarded for cheating against me in a game, because she was more "local" than I was. Even as a child, I caught the irony. To argue there is no * is as pointless as arguing there is one. The only certainty there is in life is that YOU exist. Descartes: "I think, therefore I am". If you are a conscious entity that exists to argue the non-existence of *, then at least you exist. Simple. It's beyond human comprehension to try and reason what planes of existence there are beyond life on this planet, or what there is outside of this universe. Check out string theory; it effectively argues we are made of nothing, but WE know we're here, so how can that be true? Unfortunately, our generation is still mired in religions based on archaic belief systems and even the most advanced thinkers would find it near-impossible to change the basic mindset of humanity, or at least those in control of it. Slowly, but surely, the ship is turning and at some point all of humanity will head in the right direction, without feeling the need to pay homage to a "*" in a fashion passed down since the Dark Ages. I don't knock anyone's belief in a *; there's neither evidence for or against a deity's existence, but I refuse to adhere to the manner in which a proposed "higher power" is celebrated, where non-believers are infidels, or ignorant. At the same time, pro-active atheists are just as annoying, treating believers as though they're living in cloud cuckoo land. We're all drifting along, with no idea of our rhyme or reason and we could all just be a living on a flea on Archie's dog. I'm a humanist. Treat your fellow man with respect and make the world a better place, without the idea of eternal life in paradise as a reward for your actions.

good post mate ,i have absolutly nothing against people who have that religion or that one ,or non believers ,thats choice ,but basically to slaughter someones religion ,when they dont believe in any form of religion is nonsense, as i said earlier religion is a personal matter ,and i wouldnt talk about unless i was asked ,as in a conversation ,

religion was put in place to confuse us about where were from and what were capable of to make us feel powerless/insignificant/judged etc. the most logical or non confusing religions would be new age or bhuddism.

Cheers mate, at first I thought you had meant me.

I dont have a problem with peoples beliefs at all, but I do have a problem with people who are intolerant and dont respect individuals right to live their lives the way the choose.
I read your piece on Padre Pio the other day and I thought it was a great post. If one person read that and hadnt heard of him and as a result looked up some details about him and his life, then u did good mate.

I live on Mission Hill. The Mission Church Basilica (Our Lady of Lourdes) is practically in my backyard.

Are you from the city or the Greater Boston Area/Metro-West?
