True but never very much which is sometimes riskier when talking about the level we aspire to. They will spend much more on one 'proven' player than we ever will these days with £3m our ceiling.

Last summer Ajax bought two players who cost a fee, with the most expensive being around £3 million. The other cost around £2 million.

The season before their top signing was for around £2.5 million.

If you think Barcelona would risk Deulofeu or even Tello to a Keith Lasley bone cruncher, you're living in Cloud Cuckoo Land.

Aye we spend money generated but we have not spent cash from non player trading since 2009 when mowbray was in charge have spent more than we have brought in figures are all approximates plus wage bill has come down 43% for playing staff in same period

    2010 £14.1m brought in : £9m out Profit £5.1m
    2011 £1.8m brought in : £3.1 out Loss £1.3m
    2012 £7.3m brought in : £3.9m out Profit £3.4m
    2013 £22.5m brought in : £11.9m out Profit £10.6m

Overall profit from player trading during NL reign £17.8m not to mention over £45m from CL and 3 league titles prize money

    Ronny So far...

2014 £1.2m brought in : £0 out and wont likely change!

So as far as i am concerned NL never spent a penny and in theory neither have celtic as a club.... let the * signings continue!

You're not the full shilling then.

If you don't spend money you don't have, you're not spending. That works out well.

Sorry forgot we cant upset the corporate fan now can we dont mention the debt word or we will go bust like sevco.........

i would reinvest my dividend every year if celtic would give the money to the manager to buy quality rather than sell our best players!

In our current league setup and with Rangers back to full momentum, we couldn't expect to have better than our 2012/2013 team.

That level of player will be our limit and also finding those players is not an easy task.

We were lucky we scored some good buys coupled with a decent amount of introductory experience in the Europa league against the likes of Atletico and Udinese the season previous.

That initial season built a solid foundation for that crop of players to go ahead the following season and develop in to a formidable unit.

In my previous post I did say in either price or wage. Bojan was probably pretty pricey in terms of the latter...

In previous seasons they have spent big too, before the two seasons you mentioned they spent over 13.5m and their record signing is €16.5m...

My point however is that it is about balance and they haven't needed to spend big in transfer fees in recent years because their youth and scouting system has served them well, plus they have been able to offer good wages to the likes of Eriksen. Yet if they have to they aren't averse to making a bigger signing to augment the 3 main pillars of their strategy.

Are you actually hearing yourself? Spend more of the money we bring in, by all means, but you're not the sharpest knife in the drawer if you only consider it spending if we're accumulating debt.

Id like to see us bring in Lewis Holtby and Gylfi Sigurdsson....unfortunately, there is more chance in Stevje Wonder walking without a white stick

I'm quite sure they had the same concerns about lending Gerard to Everton - it was only Martinez's contacts and good reputation that made the deal go through.

Barca see everyone outside Catalonia and Holland as footballing neanderthals, so I don't think it would have made much of a difference to them frankly.

Anyway Barca was just an extreme example, we probably wouldn't be able to set up an agreement with them despite our healthy relations.

But I see no reason why Celtic don't accept their place in modern football and approach 10 or 15 richer clubs. Arsenal, Benfica, Juventus, Atletico Madrid for eg and ask for a couple good youngsters or fringe players a year.

Sure, most will say no, but i'm positive at least 1 big club would be happy to lend us a couple players. We can be the exact same as Ajax - the only reason Barca loan to them is to give their kids 1st team and European experience before they are ready for the step up in the Nou Camp.

If the board are not willing to splash out on quality permanent transfers and insist on only getting cheap young players, then at least go the whole hog and ensure we are getting the best possible youngsters rather than a luckydip of random foreigners.
