Agree with everything there. Deffo a PR thing. It will sell.
Be good to have played Villa in a benefit game for Stan, with money going to charity.

Pre season scheduel is really good. Got no complaints really, But would have played more than 1 game in the US. :50:

    You GO GHIRL! :56:

I actually think Norwich is a great team for one of our pre seasons. Better warm up against a team like that. We will learn more than say playing a glamour friendly like Real Madrid. Let's be honest, all we will do is chase the ball playing them! :icon_mrgreen:

Also Norwich fans and Celtic fans get along fantastic after last time. Will be great for both of us. :50:

Good for who mate? Not that many American fans show up to the games. It's made of travelling support and business tickets to clients that are given away free. Hence a lot of empty seats. I was at the Celtic match at Fenway, only since I live 20 minutes away and it was *. Football should never be played on a baseball field. :38:

i have witnessed some of our PR like the time we went to America here was us, trying to convince the Yanks to follow us, when we go and invite * Man U in the round robin for * sake, then try and exposed our self with an italian team that sure * us up, we lost every fan that was there, the same with the oz tour, going there for old time sake to show off to the convicted relatives, when we were under strength as a team, when you want to get fans on board you pick your opposition wisely, there is no fan in this planet that would follow a loosing team. hope we learn from this the next time we try America, and play the Irish card or in oz.

Totally disagree with you there Butch. Pre-season tours are not about trying to get fans in foreign countries to follow us. By your reasoning then playing lower league sides in Germany this Summer who we should pump easily is all designed to get German fans to support Celtic? I don't think so.

I don't have proof but I'd imagine most of the US, or Australian tours where we play the likes of Man Utd. Madrid etc are by invitation only and are a big money earner for the club.

Then to claim that when we play in the States or Oz and lose we lose fans just because we didn't win to me is ridiculous. That's like saying oh * we got beat by St Mirren today so I won't support Celtic anymore.

surely if we're crossing our fingers for group stages of the Champions League this year then some experience against top European sides is essential for the campaign to go well.

Given that 90% of our squad only has the one Europa league campaign under their belts, this can't be a bad thing?

I'm actually happy the club are capitalising on a relationship that MAY be forming. Having bonds between sets of supporters can only be a good thing :)

there are Irish Americans with there kids out there, believing every thing there da says about the great Celtic, then wondering why a team like MAN U are beating them, what ever lasting impression would that have on a new fan do you think. PR is meant to work for you only, not the opposition, Celtic don't need an invite from the likes of united in the USA, it was a good piece of PR from them to get there Neb into the States. as I would have said who are they. and with regarding Germany as a place to play football.
that is the place to go, when you are under strength. and can play on your Laural's. winning or getting beat is a learning exercise, only. as our media back home can make it life threatening.

To answer the question directly, it's a pre-season match in order to get our squad some match fitness before the season starts properly.

it's decent opposition and it'll get the club some cash, why not?

why do we play any pre-season at all?
Maybe it's to get our rather large squad fit for the coming season. And why Norwich? Maybe because it could have been part of the agreement to play them at Carrow Road.

It'll be a good excercise, free on the season ticket I'm sure so decent day out for some folk, especially their fans and our fans that traveled down there.

Not like we have got an over extensive tour on the other side of the world.

It wouldn't be Utd that would be inviting Celtic, these tours are organised by event management companies for the sole reason of making money. It is an honour that Celtic are being invited to such events, turning down any such invite just because we don't want to get beaten is ridiculous and could have disasterous concequences in the future if we aren't invited to any at all.

Maybe we should just play * Scottish teams so that we pump the lot of them. Games against Man U, Inter, Real etc are games that even though they are games we are not expected to win we should at least use them as a learning experience in our bid to get to the Champions League group stages and possibly further.

If a kid is taken to these games, watches us getting beaten and decides Celtic are not for them then so what? If you are brought up in a household with tales of Celtic winning all around them (as I did with tales of the Lisbon Lions) then one defeat is not going to stop them supporting the Hoops.

Norwich birds have 6 fingers on each hand, just imagine the sort of stuff they could do in the bedroom.

If a kid does not support Celtic because Celtic lost a friendly, the old man clearly has not explained very well what supporting Celtic is about. Win, lose or draw...
