After watching another blood and guts display from our club captain,I cant understand why many on here want to get rid of him.In our 3rd in a row season he was immense and the next season he was injury hit and our defence fragilities were exposed,he has now returned and even got picked for his Country before his team.He shown some world class tackilng against Hamburg, yes he has made a mistake this season (Who hasnt?)but i consider him as Celtic through and through, homegrown and loyal.Maybe if he changed his nationality and bleached his hair people would rate him higher.Has he done something personally against the club that i havent heard?

He is absolutely rotten, don't let the fact he cut his eye fool you into believing he is some sort of footballing warrior. He almost cost us a goal at 2-1 when he actually barged into the back of his own team mate when going up for a header. Add to that the fact he has no passing ability whatsoever it adds up to a complete imposter.
We've got shot of Brown from the first team and the quicker we get rid of Mick the better. He wears his heart on his sleeve but he is one of those people Mowbray is talking about when he says the side lacks quality even for all their efforts. -

I would make a request to the mods to re-title the thread to 'What has Mick done right'

im a fan of mcmanus, i loved him in the 3 in a row, but recently he's not been up to scratch, i think he'd be better with a class center half next to him, but mowbray's style is passin quality and mcmanus is a diffrent player to what he wants, but i really hope celtic get a good center half in and he cud maby partner

So why isnt he stripped of the captaincy and dropped from the team? If TM thought that of him why let O'Dea go to some crappy team on loan for "experience".
-
This leads nicely to Mick and Caldwell. Both are sub-standard, I said this when we last won the league and was told we had the best defense in Scotland, how the tide turns.
The problem facing TM is that he obviously feels he has no real option but to run with Mick, Caldwell or Loovens at CB for the time being. The other problem is that is facing TM is how do you go about stripping Mick of the captaincy? Unless he is punted, or a proven CB comes in thus shifting Mick out of the team leaves him with little option. Why rock the boat if you don't need to, or indeed cant. -

Excuse me but what has he done wrong, that is the question on this thread? -
His dedication and bravery are second to none but a player sitting down the tunnel getting his eyebrow sewn back together isn't contributing on the pitch.
As Captain, he should be keeping the team organised (especially the defence) and we aren't. His passing is poor, his positional play is poor, he lacks for pace and dives into challanges that results in needless bookings that put him under pressure.
If he gets his act together then there is no reason why he can't carry on as Captain, and I would like to see that because I like the guy, but right now I'm unconvinced. -
His heart is in the right place but for me hes just not got the ability, its a shame to say as he does play for the jersey. Imo if John Kenndey never got injured, * Ganea, Mick would be playing in the championship or league one in England
-
FFS Better keep that quiet about liking the guy,you might get banned from here.Remember hes the reason we lost the league ,got beaten by Arsenal, missed countless chances against poor teams last season, has the ball control of steven hawkins ,cant pass a defender without tripping ,and after no one coming in for him last year had no choice but to sign for us anyway..or is that someone else?

Mick McManus
Mick does wear his heart on his sleeve.
Thats were the good stuff ends
However, he is 80% of the time out jumped.
He cannot pass out of defence.
He lumps the ball 50 yards up the park to no one.
What really gets me is when the cameras are in the tunnel just before the game and he just stands there like a lump of wood.
He thinks giving away corners constantly is good.
He cannot motivate the team. I could go on and on.
The big man is totaly out of his depth, he is a gentleman and the sooner celtic sell him to a championship club it will be best for all parties.
Just to finish I am sick of him praising the force of darkness. -
against hamburg and again today i felt mick applied himself a bit better....not so much in ability but with his aggression and determination. if he had a bit better positional sense we wouldnt need those last ditch crunching tackles.....lets remember that he is still relatively young with his best days in front of him.....look accrosss the river at davie weir he's * with his best days behind him.
-
so because he turned down ipswich (LOL) and missed 4 games and won us the league in 1 match(?) he should get a game
-
Loyalty mate thats whats wrong with football today, you probably want a teamfull of Donatis and Samaras and Loovens, players who as soon as someone comes in for them will be off like a shot. -
-
to put it bluntly hes * pish:icon_mrgreen:
-
not good enuf ,no awareness , to slow and like caldwell dives in to many times, but i dont know if its caldwell that makes mick poor or the other way ,they dont work.
-
He wouldnt get a game with the TC team mate ,he is rank and always has been.
-
McManus is barely good enough to play in the team, never mind captain the side. I distinctly remember the commentary team today saying that both teams will have to keep the ball on the deck today due to the conditions.
Whats the first thing Mick and Caldwell do? Punt. Punt. Punt.
I for one am not fooled into thinking that playing with a cut on your head whilst earning thousands for playing fitba is enough to merit praise.
There is nobody better at the club just now though so we will have to suffer it until at least January.
Caldwell and Mick continually get sucked into challenges and areas they shouldn't be. Did you see him challenging Robson ten yards from the halfway line, when Robson was clearly in a position to challenge, it almost cost us a goal. He's a clown, pure and simple.
