Thompson could be used as an emergency left back, with Wilson out and Naylor carrying a knock that's why he made the bench last night

Thommo is holding on because of the top money he is getting from the ill-considered contract he was given a couple of years ago. He has been finished for a couple of years now although he is still not that old at all. Heard he is/was a smoker and perhaps this may have shortened his top flight career. Bobo is in the same contractual boat (i.e. he was given a contract he shouldnt have) but I would only consider letting Bobo go when Kennedy is back to his best or, if there are set backs, when we have signed another experienced centre back. Would not mind if we signed Russell Anderson. He is good although probably not better than our main two centre backs or a fit Kennedy.

Do you think he could get the Yanks to withdraw their noses from everyone else's business and countries Dave??
Thompson will be a gonner soon and i am not convinced by Bobo at times but i thought Zurawski did well last night and just needs a goal like Miller did.

    Thompson for Tymoschuk anyone??

Here's what I think should happen now. We continue to support Strachan and let him make the decisions. He is doing a * bang up job so far.
That said my opinion is that Thompson's days as a Celtic player will end probably as early as January as he is well down the pecking order and with his age and wages I don't see a reason for him in the squad. To me both Balde and Zurawski are vital members of the squad at the moment. Sure Balde is on a big wage and at 31 his career at Celtic probably doesn't have a long life left to it but certainly at the moment he is a vital squad member as is Zurawski IMHO. I think too you need to take that old World Cup Finals hangover into account with him. So often you see that with players the season after a World Cup or European Finals have an inconsistent club season as they didn't get a proper break.

Having said all that those are just my opinions and I am more then happy to keep backing Strachan who is doing a fantastic job.

Russell Anderson is a great player and would be a good signing. I just think the way we are playing now Balde would just not fit in. It was great to see our centre halfs keeping the ball whenever they could and looking for a pass it makes the opposition work harder and we keep the ball. Easier said than done but Balde is totally the opposite. He is great in the air and very strong in the tackle but i think WGS is looking for more than that and if he is not playing consistantly would be very error prone.

I think Strachan knows all this already. Nobody wants Thompson or Balde he cant sell them because nobody will pay their wages. And realeasing them will cost alot of money, might as well hold onto them incase of a injury crisis until he can sell them or release on a free/mutual consent. When the opportunity comes along he will get rid, like Sutton, Agathe, Hartson.

He should largely just coach this group and tie up all our good players for next four years. The only January buisness I would suggest is to punt Thommo and (if Kennedy is 100%) Bobo. We will need a back up left back, preferably someone young and talented (Kadlic?). Also, you could argue that the reserve centre backs are not ready and we should bring in someome like Russell Anderson in case of injuries after we flog Bobo, but would be a bit of a luxury and not sure Anderson would come here to warm our bench. Elsewhere, there is plenty of competition. We should concentrate on picking up the best local young players and get WGS to coach them for a season or so (maybe Kevin McDonald if Lenny retires).

Kadlec was way overpriced at £2M. People here watched a Sparta Prague match and said that Naylor looked a much better player for the money spent. I think Kadlec's contract is in its final year and could sign a pre-contract in january

Maybe a bad game. WGS must have seen something. If Kadlic is a prospect who could fill in occasionaly now, we could take him for nowt and his wages (coming from Czec Republic) wont be too much. I would even pay a few hundred grand to get him in January if we are still in CL. Was not much impressed by the young fella from the reserves in the League Cup game. Do not want to be too hard on him but if Naylor got injured, we would have big problems in CL. Even if Wilson was fit we would end up with Wilson on left and Telfer on right which is less than perfect. Lack of left-back back-up is our biggest weakness for big games IMO. Thommo has no pace and could not do the job in tough games. If pushed, I would train Pearo to cover in an emergency until we sort the problem. He at least can tackle, has height and pace.
