I think that would be a good idea. However the best of the best go elsewhere - usually the middle east and the U.S. and earn circa £100k - with great tax incentives too.

I often hear that on forums but I dont ever remember that being a problem for us before. Look at Heid and Mick they probably put together got paid less than Balde. They will moan about it and complain in private maybe but they wont strike or chuck it or anything like that.

Some players are simply worth it. Id give Griff a 6 year deal on 30k a week easy. I think hes worth that no bother. I can understand the logic in trying to do it for as low as possible but sometimes in the interests of the team Lawwell has to put his ego aside and just offer big contracts.

From what I hear Lawwell never ever gos above the club valuation no matter what, as a matter of principle. So if he has a number for griff at 20k per week and Griff wants 22k then the deal is dead. That is what I have heard anyway. No negotiation after our number has been met. Simple as that. Even if we have to pay a large fee and near enough the same wages to get a potentially inferior player, we will do it.

All the guys who have left the dutch league for Epl?I would be surprised if they were earning 20k a week, the Belgian defenders that were at Ajax Eriksen Depay. Go to Austria is Soriano earning 40k I don't know, just saying a lot of really good players from these leagues would love to play for a famous club like ours if money was right.

Aye that's true. Hard finding them though when we have to compete against big leagues and clubs just as desperate as us - Ajax etc.

Zouma is another one - think he earns £10k a week at Chelsea and before that he was on about £3k a week. So it can be done. :smiley-laughing002:

Well if your going to gamble and * the clubs finances then do it right.

40-50 million spending spree would do it.:50:

Their turnover is something like 10%-20% higher than ours, so assuming similar with wages.

The only thing I@m not sure about with the way the club is being run is how well our scouting is doing abroad. I mean, how bad must it be when we can't attract/find a 18-21 year old striker from a far-flung place and then have to spend £1.5m-£2m on Ciftci (and Carlton Cole).

I've always thought we got rid of Tony Watt way too soon. Peter Lawwell argued in a annual report that we "received well over market value" for him. But it's impossible to replace young big/physical strikers.

Ajax pays less than us. I remember from the Mitchell Dijks transfer saga, they offered him less than we did. I was surprised because it seems like they could afford to pay more

What are our players actually getting in wages and bonuses.
Find that out then make the suggestions on who to get rid of and how much we can afford to send on new players.

Can't argue with that but I doubt he'd have stayed even for that kind of money.

I heard he is on 50k a week at Southampton. Im not sure if that figure is true but id say its at the higher end of what his pay is anyway. Id say there is a good chance he is on less than that. Even if he is on 50k, he only got offered that contract after we gave him permission to negotiate with them. Whats to say a 30k offer from us would have been rejected. Talk at the time was that he was a very low earner even for our standards.

But thats in the past, looking ahead I think the only way for us to go up a level is by having top players. It really is that simple. Them men cost money and we will have to find a way to pay them or we will only ever move sideways or backwards.

I've thought a lot about this and the only logical answer I can give is what Og1 said. I dislike the idea of bringing a slightly unknown player like Derk and Pukki to our club and giving them bloated wages when we knew from the start that they are a gamble, when we have our very best players leaving us because we can't afford to pay them the wages they might accept in order to stay with us.

I would like to see the squad trimmed too. Deila talked about this, getting it down to about 22 players then supplementing it with youngsters from the academy.
Get rid of 3 or 4 players and get one or 2 decent ones in.
Let Stokes, Derk and McGregor go. Haven't seen much of Blackett to warrant signing him, let's hope he impresses over the next few months. If not, let him and/or Ambrose go and sign one decent CB.

Would love a B team in the lower leagues but couldn't see that happening, unfortunately.

I wish we had fan ownership ensuring that the club is run according to our interests rather than just filling Lawell's pocket. All the rest will be a consequence of this.
