I was just reading an interesting post, about Celtic's finances. Its overall conclusion was that a successful european run in the Champions league, until after xmas, or then competing to the latter stages of the Europa League, was crucial to our development as a club, in footballing and financial terms.
With that in mind, what are the reasons for our woeful away record in europe?
Poor Players? Bad tactics? Bad Luck? Inexperience at that level? managerial inexperience?
Could we start early with the reserves and younger players, by taking them on mini tours, to play abroad? Getting them thinking about european away games as challenge to rise to?
Any thoughts or suggestions to improve this away record?

We need to learn how to win the tie in the first game if at home . Holding back after going 2 up against Ultrecht was poor.
I think when playing away we should set ourselves up as we would in the SPL, as we are used to playing that way.
Everytime we play away we change our game and we always struggle . We are not good enough to defend most of the game and hit on the counter, and it always shows. -
Get our team to take a no nonsense approach at first until we settle down.

I thought the 4-2-3-1 would be the best solution to our problems away in europe. Having a couple of fast wing backs who can beat a man and quickly play a counter acting pass through to the forwards. Having to two good ball winning and passing central midfielders, for breaking up the oppositions attacks. We are missing a prolific striker with top level european pedigree.

we are not used to teams attacking us and it shows in europe we cant cope ,if our league was more competitive it would not happen so much, also we more than any other team i know always try to go forward so it is always an open game and easier for teams to pick us off ,hate to say but rangers system is more suited to europe if they had the players /

wear the green and white hoops..look like celtic and start to play like celtic.:celt_2:

we need to play a system that suits us ,a balance of defence and attack ,play 1 striker, its not negative because if you play 3 then they will pack defence and counter, 1 gives more space to play in but the 1 would have to be a very good striker and at this moment we dont have that.

Learn to defend first and foremost.
Ability to keep possession.
Actually create chances.
Take chances when they arise.
Defend like * once we go infront.
Simple as that :87: -

When we play against so called lesser teams in Europe they seem to fight more where we don't look interested. Utrecht for example fought hard, ran all over the place and never let us settle.
First and foremost we need to go out with the attitude we can score. Far too often have we sat back and tried to defend. Doing this let's the other team play and settle, easily knocking the ball around and building on confidence.
We also need to manage to do the simple thing. Too often do we never find our own player with a simple 5 yard pass.
By doing these 2 simple things first, it will stop us getting drubbed every away game. So let's play our own game and not the oppositions. -

Maybe start winning the SPL again before we set our sights any higher.

Fix our defence first. We would need to play defensive to get anywhere in europe, we also need quick CBS aswell.

Its a fair question and i wish and probaly another 2 million people knew the answer to this.
Right through the last 10 years Celtic have played teams of the park at Parkhead but not just get beaten away from home but came back with red faces at some of the results ,how they can leather a team one week then get thumped by the same team the following week is beyond me . -
Just try to start with an other pre season: have some training in which a new group can gel.......and than start playing games.
