If Lennon does leave, I'd take Hiddink or Martin O'Neill.

Good idea for a thread or vote ..........
(maybe could have posed the question in a better way )

Celtic can attract players due to our potential for CL football

What drives managers ? would CL football alone attract managers and coaching staff to a club like Celtic ?

Some managers need the weekly challenge or exciting league and i think everyone will agree that the SPL is not in itself an attraction for 'top' managers etc

i think our youth system and set up is second to none in Scotland and better than most english clubs

I think coaches and scouts would love to work at Celtic

Top managers .... that is a tough question

they wont come for the weather, the beautiful pitches etc ( maybe someone like jack charlton who likes his fishing )..... and salary wont be that great

If they have an affinity for the club then we are a very attractive proposition

If no affinity then we would need to lower our sights or get someone who is looking for a way back into football

IF / when Lenny decides to go then maybe we should look at a dutch manager... they seem to do well in Scotland

BUT Lenny stepped up from reserves and i think we should be looking at the same route again... why pay big bucks to someone outside when we have the potential people inside the club waiting for a chance

just don't ask Sir Cardigan to recommend anyone

Le Guen is and was a good manager, just needed time.

Lennon, is not a rookie. He is in the early stages, but he is not developing and getting worse, actually.

O'Neil or Hiddink, for me. Maybe Coyle

In answer to the OP - a lot better calibre of manager than player IMO. The draw of titles / playing to large crowds is a far greater attraction to a seasoned manager with a good CV than a talented 22 year old largely oriented around earning as much as possible to * away on cars and *.

Managers like Neil Lennon. A good one. But a rookie.

With him we will win 10 in a row and with all that experience we will reach even greater heights in Europe.

We have a class act right now.

I don't believe anyone who could get a job in the epl would take the Celtic job instead. Realistically I think Scottish rookies and ex players are who we would likely get

NL has achieved a great deal, needs to progress next season, will be considered a poor season if substantial points dropped while winning SPL, no cups, or non-Q for CL stages.

He is as good a manager as we could hope for at this time:icon_mrgreen:

What about Mick McCarthy if he is available when Lenny leaves? I reckon he would love the chance to manage us as I remember in an interview a couple of years ago he talked about a fan telling him he should manage Celtic one day and he replied it would be an honour to do so.

Isn't Jupp Heynckes supposedly 'retiring' at the end of the season. Maybe we can offer him a couple more years of winning trophies :86:

No but seriously, I don't particularly want Lennon to leave right now. However if he somehow manages to not get us to one of the group stages of Europe (EL or CL) then he must surely be on the brink. Some people may even say after this season's European adventure the EL group stages won't be good enough.

If Lennon was to leave I would still like to see a young manager brought in as his replacement, although I am not sure about McNamara. I like the look of Thomas Tuchel at Mainz over in Germany.

Really intelligent young manager who has done a good job into making Mainz a decent Bundesliga outfit. He is described as a "next generation" coach. Has a big interest in Sports Science and is often compared to Jurgen Klopp. Got a feeling he is destined to be an excellent manager and would love him here.

Interesting article here on Tuchel I just had a read at :

    http://bundesligafootball.co.uk/2012/07/what-now-for-thomas-tuchel/

Anyway, if Lenny does go in the next few years he would be my choice.

I am not positive about the shortlist for Celtic manager, but I feel it is something we need to explore. The calibre of manager may be more 2-3 star managers, though.

Was thinking about a poll - wouldn't have known what to ask tbh! Wording of the question was a bit roundaboutery, but I didn't want a post like 'Who would replace Neil Lennon?' when he is still our manager and I/many of us don't mind what he is actually doing with the club - thread would not have been taken seriously.

I was thinking of a dutch manager aswell or a manager from that league, their level of football is fantastic, and I reckon the managers outside of PSV, Ajax and Feyenoord would actually love to come to Celtic. Wouldn't mind a manager who ply's his trade in the Norwegian/Portuguese/Swedish/Belgian league tbh!
