What british city has given us the best music?

Said Glasgow for Glasvegas, but was tempted with Manchester for Oasis

 

Liverpool for the Beatles...

 

I really meant which city has given us the best music overall, not individual bands but good responses so far.

 

Oasis, The Smiths, Joy Division, The Stone Roses, Elbow, The Courteeners.......


Manchester by a mile.

 

The Verve are from Wigan mate.

 

Close enough, it's in Greater Manchester.

 

One great album and one good album I think there have been better bands than the Roses.

 

manchester for me so many good bands, bristol also has a good history massive attack, portishead roni size and endles amounts of dance acts

Can't believe Manchesters winning this! Probably off the back of Oasis and the Stone Roses who are popular with young loons these days.

London for me -

The Who, Jimi Hendrix(London band remember) Experience, The Small Faces, The Rolling Stones, The Yardbirds, The Clash, The * Pistols, The Jam, Blur, David Bowie, The Kinks, Rod Stewart, Elvis Costello.

I am catching your drift Clagan but since I was on wikipedia I searched for bands that I thought were hailing from London:

Queen were an English rock band formed in 1970 in London by ....

Also says Led Zep originated in London.

Depends I suppose on what you class on being from what City. For example Joe Strummer was born in Turkey or some * like that, it's where the band formed and made it big that's more important no?
